And that sucks about not having flouride in your water. I'm guessing that the 600 are on a different system?

Anymore? We need a Birmingham meet.

aves2k, ohtwell, TallGeese (Tuscaloosa), and Skoorb/MrsSkoorb just moved to NY. There's others out there that I can't remember as well.

Why did the Skoorbs stop posting here?

Just busy with life I assume.

No, I don't. That yearly summary should have clearly stated they don't fluoridate the water, and then I would have taken steps like using a toothpaste with a higher amount of fluoride prescribed by a dentist. There's other ways to get the amount of fluoride that you need. I just assumed all along that the water out here was fluoridated. This area is nice, large houses, good schools, good retail, etc.

Why did you not look for yourself then? Is it really necessary for the government to baby you along throughout your life? Get a grip on reality.

Where have I said anything about the government, moron? Can't read as usual?

Show me where in this report they say the water is not fluoridated.

I don't think I'm being "babied" by wondering if traditionaly additives are missing from my water supply. How else am I supposed to know? Test the water in my own personal chemistry lab? Loser.

Um, call them? You already stated that you have well water, which throws up a big red flag right there. Well water and surface water fall under completely different guidelines and are of drastically different qualities. The water quality report for your well should be a matter of public record. If you are concerned, you should get a copy of the report.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Lord, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don't, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen, tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first... become... well, develop this theory?
General Jack D. Ripper: Well, I, uh... I... I... first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No.
General Jack D. Ripper: But I... I do deny them my essence.

sorry, just had to. 😀

I'm not here to argue the benefits. I believe fluoridation is a good thing and is healthy for your teeth. Unfortunately, I didn't know my water is untreated in this regard. There was an article in today's paper, and out of hundreds of thousands of residents in my county, there are 600 of us that don't have fluoride in our water. I am, apparently, one of the lucky 600.

http://www.al.com/news/birminghamnews/i...1170065899177910.xml&coll=2&thispage=2

There's where it mentions only 600 customers are not treated. I called my water company and confirmed I am definitely one of the 600. I certainly plan to go to this meeting and speak out in support of getting the fluoride added. I've always had really good oral health, but I've lived here without fluoride for 3 years now, and I've managed to get a cavity. I now have little doubt as to why (not a big fan of sugary things and my genes are in favor of good teeth).

This was never disclosed to me when I bought my home here or by the Water Board. They sent out a yearly report of what is in the water, and I had noticed before that fluoride wasn't listed. I just assumed that was because they added it.

I like having fluoride in the water as well. 😀

it's not really good for you, so why do you want it in your water?

Why would you want flouride in your water? I think the idea of drugging the public on a massive scale is pretty sick. It's one thing to have it in one's toothpase where the flouride can do it's job and react with the calcium(?) on your teeth to make them stronger but what good does flouride do coursing through your veins?
I have a freaking expensive RO system to, among other things, remove the flouride in my water.

Have you seen British teeth???

/thread

Flouride seems like a pretty bad substance to me... unless someone can explain how fluoride in your water is like OMFG nNEEDED!

The substance fluorine is pretty damn harmful and reactive though fluoride maybe not as much?

Do you filter your bottled water before you drink it?

Look, I know you Bama fans are "different" but there's no need for that kind of talk around here. Keep your Wii in your pants. 😉

Can't you find something better to be pissed about? Jeez.. the less stuff in your water the better. Buy flouride in a bottle and use it when you brush your teeth.

Uh, no. Again, you are a complete and total idiot and deserve a painful death. I do not have a well. Most PUBLIC Water sources are WELLS dug into an aquifer or the ground. Large, regularly tested, EPA compliant wells. Not some hole I dug in the ground or had a company dig. There's ZERO difference in what the EPA requires between water from a lake/river or from a well for PUBLIC CONSUMPTION by a company selling water. Perhaps you should do a little research instead of continuing to look like an ass.

Furthermore, I had no idea what the source of my water was until that article. Every year that report (that I linked) has been sent out it has stated my water comes from the Warrior River. It also states the water IS fluoridated. Neither one of those are true. Instead of creating a seperate report, apparently they are just sending me the report for the rest of the system. I'm sure that's pretty dubious legally. How would I know I'm on a well? Every year they state the water source is the Warrior River. Every year they say the water is fluoridated. So, I'm just supposed to assume they are lying, call them, and then they will admit that they are sending out inaccurate information? Yeah, that totally seems like a rational plan. Are you high or just totally stupid and inept at life?

Bottled water - now thats a scary subject :Q

Fluoride is NOT straight Fluorine. It is the ionized version.
Something from chemistry class tells me that drinking flourine would not be good at all(if you could drink it, I guess sip whisps of gas?

Most bottled spring water is sketchy, if you buy Dasani you'll be fine.
I like my water from the tap run through a nice series of filters one of which has to be a reverse osmosis filter.
