I'm not here to argue the benefits. I believe fluoridation is a good thing and is healthy for your teeth. Unfortunately, I didn't know my water is untreated in this regard. There was an article in today's paper, and out of hundreds of thousands of residents in my county, there are 600 of us that don't have fluoride in our water. I am, apparently, one of the lucky 600.

http://www.al.com/news/birminghamnews/i...1170065899177910.xml&coll=2&thispage=2

There's where it mentions only 600 customers are not treated. I called my water company and confirmed I am definitely one of the 600. I certainly plan to go to this meeting and speak out in support of getting the fluoride added. I've always had really good oral health, but I've lived here without fluoride for 3 years now, and I've managed to get a cavity. I now have little doubt as to why (not a big fan of sugary things and my genes are in favor of good teeth).

This was never disclosed to me when I bought my home here or by the Water Board. They sent out a yearly report of what is in the water, and I had noticed before that fluoride wasn't listed. I just assumed that was because they added it.

Yay!! Another Alabama person on AT! How many is that now? 6?

And that sucks about not having flouride in your water. I'm guessing that the 600 are on a different system?

You are probably the only one with teeth in your area anyway ;)

As far as I know the water out here is from a large well instead of the Warrior River. Because of that, it is not run through the central system where they fluoridate. I'm guessing this is because WRWA bought the old system before I built my home out here. What pisses me off is that WRWA is the most BS water authority ever. They aren't as corrupt as Birmingham's Water Board, but they make up for it with inflexability, ineptness, and being total rednecks. Still can't pay with a Credit Card. They still close their doors at 3PM, and it seems like the location to pay changes every 6 months. I finally setup monthly withdrawal from my checking, but even then they fvcked that up and had to recredit me one month.

No, I don't. That yearly summary should have clearly stated they don't fluoridate the water, and then I would have taken steps like using a toothpaste with a higher amount of fluoride prescribed by a dentist. There's other ways to get the amount of fluoride that you need. I just assumed all along that the water out here was fluoridated. This area is nice, large houses, good schools, good retail, etc.

Why did you not look for yourself then? Is it really necessary for the government to baby you along throughout your life? Get a grip on reality.

Why would you want flouride in your water? I think the idea of drugging the public on a massive scale is pretty sick. It's one thing to have it in one's toothpase where the flouride can do it's job and react with the calcium(?) on your teeth to make them stronger but what good does flouride do coursing through your veins?
I have a freaking expensive RO system to, among other things, remove the flouride in my water.

Where have I said anything about the government, moron? Can't read as usual?

Show me where in this report they say the water is not fluoridated.

I don't think I'm being "babied" by wondering if traditionaly additives are missing from my water supply. How else am I supposed to know? Test the water in my own personal chemistry lab? Loser.

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Lord, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don't, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen, tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first... become... well, develop this theory?
General Jack D. Ripper: Well, I, uh... I... I... first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No.
General Jack D. Ripper: But I... I do deny them my essence.

sorry, just had to. :D
