Theres only so much FED / 911 / whatever conspiracy and Ron Paul nuttery I can take... digg has gone straight to shit.

I guess it's to be expected though - if you put masses in editorial control, it will only demonstrate the average intelligence of the masses and you end up with stupid crap like that getting shoved down your throat.

That's why I never started digging. I get all the stupidity I need from forums (and contribute my own particular blend ;)).

That's why I stopped listening to the Daily Source Code with Adam Curry. He's a freaking nutjob.

Digg lets you filter out the categories that you don't want to read. I use this to get rid of the topics you mention, plus a few others. Granularity is limited, so you'll also kill some things that you might want to read, but it makes the site bearable.

You must not be looking hard enough if that's all you can find. Just because lots of that stuff is Digg'd up and on the Top 10/Top Most Recent lists doesn't mean they're the ONLY articles being submitted. And if you still don't like the content then try Reddit or something.

I just removed it from my bookmarks. It's not the stories as much as it is the comments, but some of the posts are pathetic.

Huckabee Pardons Rapist got dugg a few hundred times. Forget that the issue was over a parole, not a pardon, and then realize that he didn't have power as govenor to parole the guy other than expressing support for it.

Someone pointed out this inconvenient fact and got dug down 40 times. When the norm is to have accurate facts are buried and hackery and rhetoric be rewarded with digs, it's time to move on.

God forbid you say something negative about Ron Paul on there either. They'll hunt your children down and digg them graves.

I use the Video area once in a while to look for amusing stuff, but the news part is trash. I listen to the Diggnation podcast weekly though. :)

I got nothing at the moment, but I read online news sites and the NYT. If digg is typical of what such sites evolve into, I'm not sure democratically structured news sites have much of a future.

It might not be good for us, but it's run by the masses of people, for the masses, so doesn't it work for a large portion of users?

The masses are destroying themselves then with terrible information.

Digg used to be cool for tech news. I now use it more as a place to keep up with "cool internet videos" and such.

Digg always was a cesspool. Even when they just did tech news, it was filled with Apple and Linux fanboy crap.

linux fanboys don't put out crap, the fact is they don't pay for their OS, while Windows and Mac do. anythign they put out is ok for me, simply because, they aren't paying. apple fanboys? hell yeah, they need to stop even... existing....

The Linux fanboys were the ones who posted most of the "M$ sux0rs" type stories on Digg, though. Not exactly the best way to help the cause. If you want to see Linux promotion done right, Slashdot is a better choice.
