Backups probably shouldn't be live.

ok thanks people...i'm scanning with "recover my files" almost 90% done...i've downloaded the demo of R-studio as well to give a try if this doen't work...

damn me...i'll get a separate drive to install linux now...so no risk of accidental deletion of drives...thanks again guys for responding so quickly 🙂

And don't feel bad. There is no one serious OS guy that has not done this at least once. No installing with externals attached for me 😉

LOL...well right now i'm still in a state of shock and will soon be a pathetic figure as i keep on realizing what i've just lost...and my downloaded poons as well gone 😉 , damn me, well i've got most of my pictures back but my mp3 collection gone, that's a two years collection gone...and my
saved settings for mail accounts, my inbox was saved on that drive, my address book, damn too many things...oh god the more i remember what i lost the more i'm feeling like ...

You can still back it up. Now, though, you only need a floppy 😛

Now if he had partitioned it... 😉

Calvin, did the data recovery program not work? IIRC your parition tables should be destroyed along with anything RH overwrote. Though you should be able to scan the disks, and pull the data off without the partitions being present through recovery tools. Save the poon man, save the poon.

LOL..still iwouldn't wish this on any of you but seeing how mean you guys are getting maybe i'll wish this to you 😉 , oh well so far i've survived the shock...but damn all my p0rn gone 😉 hours of downloading 😉

It is a shame none of the tools could recover it. It does suck. I had it happen once (as mentioned), so that is why RAID 0 is not such a big deal. I copy to non-rewritable or protected media that I absolutely cannot lose. The rest, you know you can recover, even if it is a slight PITA (a major reason to stick with MiniDV video cameras vs the new hard drive ones - there is still the tape.)

well luckily i had given to a fren a copy of my downloaded stuffs so i can get back the poon but my precious documents and information i had gathered over years about things i like...and my lecture recordings..damn 🙁

Well, if it makes you feel better, I kept all my books and notes from college. I think I used the chemistry book once and calculus book once. I also let a friend read the book on Central American Indian tribes. So, you might be able to get by without... 😉

Use " Get Data Back for NTFS " this program rocks. I accidentally deleted my backup drive while installing Vista (but I did not overwrite the drive though). Anyways, as long as you don't have anything overwritten on your backup drive, it will recover 99% of your data.

ok gonna try that new one...haven't written anything on it yet..ya you're right about the notes...i tend to keep too many things, i still have the box of my first motherboard 😉
