I'm curious about CPU bottlenecks.

Does anyone actually have a CPU bottleneck them to upplayable framerates? If so, post your specs.

Sometimes, on here we talk about CPU bottlenecks, but this guy I just saw has a 2.4A and that is over 3 years old, but still seems to function very well for him. So, maybe we can live with CPUs for a longer time than we think.

You sure it's not a RAM issue. Sometimes, having too little RAM is the cause. What kind of fps are you getting?

Cause I didn't have a problem and I was on a 2700+ peviously.

People are still playing with 1.8ghz pentium and 1700+ AMD systems with current games and newer video cards with no problems (have some system setups like this myself).

Except for maybe doom3 - that's the most cpu-dependent game I've played so far. Maxed at around 55fps with a 6800 video card with an amd XP 3000+ system (which was very playable). Is probably close to un-playable on a 1700+ with any video card.

For FPS games I think CPU bottlenecking is WAY overstated.

I usually run my mobile cpu at 215 X 11. Once I put it back to 166 x 11 and forgot to bump it back up. Went about playing FarCry and D3 and didn't notice a diff. I also did 3D Mark 03 & 05. Scores were'nt much diff either. What diff there was I attribute to the CPU section of those benchies anyway.

CPU bottlenecking occurs at low rez's, as you go higher it all about the vid card IMHO.

If you ever want to see yourself get CPU-bottlenecked in a hurry, download the EVE-Online trial. That thing can peg an FX-55. :Q
