Hey all, here's the set-up:

I have 10 capable PCs, 1 central server, and 1 network laser printer.

I'm going to reformat all of the PC terminals and server. The server will run Windows Server 2003. PCs will be either XP Pro or 2K Pro.

I'm going to need somebody to CORRECTLY set up the network and log-in accounts for 200 users... and also set up the printer and its associated permissions/properties properly.

I estimate it will take no more than 4 hours... they can set up just a handful of accounts and i'll copy the protocol for the rest of the users. It's currently a hack-job right now... works well but probably not perfect.

I'm gonna try to get someone from Craigslist to do this for 200$-250$... do you think that's reasonable? would it take longer/shorter? commensurate of less/more pay?

I think it's gonna cost you more than 200-250.

$200-$250 for 4 hours of work? Thats a little weak. Also, if you plan on it taking 4 hours, it won't. Problems always arise. i wouldnt do that job for probably less that $500. But thats just me.

can you guys suggest a reasonable ball park price?
i wasnt going for an IT Manager who banks 80k per year
just some knowleageable young guy to come in for a saturday morning and walk out with 300$

the users are homogenous--their accounts retain desktop profiles and files--no other permissions
everybody should be able to print... but printer/driver keeps log of ALL print jobs

maybe i underestimated the difficulty; thats why im here to ask :D

I would suggest a good $500 for that job especially if the understanding is that if it does take longer (which it will, sif somethign can go wrong, it wilL! especially with computers) then the original price will cover it rather then they asking for more $.

You're just talking about roaming profiles there, which is easy to set up. But, still....take our suggestions. you get what you pay for. Like someone said...have it done right the first time. Besides, when you have network/system issues in the future...who're you going to call? Same guy who set it up, correct? so, you want to establish a good relasionship with him/her anyways.

I highly doubt anyone who does a "one weekend job" is going to offer a comprehensive support package. You pay him to set it up, and he's got your ass over a barrel for future repairs and setup.

Seriously, you have 1 server, 10 PCs, and about 200 users who need roaming profiles and printer access? Hell, you should be able to do that yourself if you're geek enough - and then no future issues with support.
