I'm confused about ddr2 speeds

I was looking at this board. I was wanting to put a Pentium D on it. Since it uses an 800mhz fsb, which speed ddr2 should I get? 533 or 667? I can't download the mb manual for some reason. And I can't find anything on the subject.

Since you're getting an SLI board, I assume that you'll be gaming. If so, then why not get an Athlon 64? They're a lot better than Pentiums in just about everything, especially gaming.

You can use either DDR2 533 or DDR2 667 for the Pentium D. It does not matter which one you use, as the motherboard supports both.

Well, I was just making a suggestion... Anyways, 667mhz RAM will be faster than 533mhz RAM, so yes, there will be a performance increase.

667 won't be any faster unless you overclock your fsb past 1066mhz which I don't think is even possible. ddr533=1066fsb, ddr667=1334fsb.I'd get the 533 or even 400 if cheaper. With quality ddr400 you can overclock it a bit past 800fsb, but the 533 is probably safer because even when overclocking the fsb the ram will be underclocked, so it's one less problem to worry about.

No, not true.......the only stock P4 that supports 1066MHz FSB is the super expensive(and not worth it) extreme edition(not all P4 EE's are 1066...only one I believe).

So no matter what you get it's all gonna run @ 400MHz unless you overclock.....get the 533MHz stuff to be safe.

Incredibly classless how the AMD slaves tried to hijack this thread.

On behalf of anandtech.com, I apologize to Nacelle.

there are far worse things you need to apologize for. Do you know how many people's stomach you have turned?

I am glad to see that they tried to provide information to help the other person, the other person did not want it and they backed off...handled themselves admirably. It wasn't until YOU intervene with your sarcastic comments that the discussion turned sour. Neverless I put my 2 cents in and will make an effort to ignore such behavior in the future

they are just laying out the facts, amd x2 killes in gaming and dvix encoding, has less power consumption, runs cooler, and overclocks better.

but, if price is a concern, by all means get the PD. its your choice what you do with your money.

oh, and fatty, i dont much appreciate people doing things on behalf of me, without asking, especially stupid sh!t like that. and if that happens again, we will get you banned.

Don't feed the troll :p Seriously though, why isn't fatty4ksu banned yet... Well, the only reason I can see not to get an X2 is because of the hefty price. If you can't afford to shell out $500, then it's perfectly fine if you get the Pentium D.

Get used to it.

Go with DDR2 @ 667MHz, if your board can take it. Some might take it but only run it at 533MHz so do some checking.

Regardless, the relatively slow timings (high latencies) of DDR2 make it a virtual tie with DDR performance-wise at the moment.
