This game looks better then pretty much anything on the market with everything set to low details, it is a generational leap in engine technology, how can people be surprised that it doesn't scream along running 16x12x4x16?
Turn down the details and see if you have any gripes about the performance, or if you have gripes about the visuals. The only thing I can think of that handily bests FarCry with details on low in terms of visuals is FarCry with details on high. I'm very glad to finally see a game engine that pushes the hardware I've spent so much money on. Getting a few hundred FPS in Quake3 is nice and all, but I spent as much money as I did to see games like FarCry running on my rig- not to move from 200 to 300FPS in older tech games.
Expect the same type of performance 'issues' with DooM3 and Half-Life2. You will not see the jaw dropping slap in the face visuals without a performance hit.
