My girlfriend decided to let me have my christmas present today!!! We are heading over to Futureshop or Toys R Us (can't do the backwards R!) after work! I'm leaning towards either PS2 or Xbox... PS2 because of Devil May Cry, GT3 and MGS2 but then X-Box is more powerfull and Halo looks cool... does Project Gotham compare to GT3? I might be light on the GF's wallet and pick up Gamecube... NAH!!! So X-box or PS2... gimme your suggestions... I have 8 HRs to decided!!!

Do you want to play a lot of good games now, or play slightly better versions of the same good games in half a year? That should be the question you ask yourself.

Try searching off topic, this has been hashed and rehased in the past two weeks.

PS2.
I was under the impression that the Xbox was alot more money, also I heard they are very scarce right now so good luck in getting one.. Hopefully they still have some though, if that's what you decide on.

I personally bought PS2 for Gran Turismo 3, I have always been a GT fan, and the new one is DOPE... I am happy with my purchase of PS2, if you want GT3 then get this system, get the GT3 edition! :D

Dreamcast. Then say goodbye to everybody, shutter yourself in your house and play Shenmue all the way through.

I just went through sorta the same thing. I decided on PS2. My reasoning is, one of the three systems will more than likely not survive. Since I do not want to buy another console in the next 1-2 years I thought that PS2 will be the safer bet over Xbox because of the huge library and backwards compatibility with PSX, it already has a huge fanbase to support it. My first choice would have been the Gamecube but my DVD player crapped out on me and I needed a new one. I picked up Devil May Cry with my PS2 and it is awesome, I have no complaints about the system at all. We will see how the other two pan out, hopefully the Xbox will be a success, I would hate to see another system go the way of the Dreamcast.

If you're a one console person and you want online games go for X-Box. If you want a guarentee that the system will be around for at least another 2 years then get Playstation 2. Hardware wise for the money, you get the biggest bang for your buck with X-Box (733Mhz Processor, 64MB of RAM, XGPU, Dolby Digital 5.1 Interactive, 8 Gig Hard drive, built in broadband). Other thing you might want to consider is the controller. The X-Box controller is significantly more bulky than any of the other 3 consoles ... If you've got small hands you might hate the X-Box. If you like Nintendo first party games then definitely get the GameCube. You won't find Mario and friends anywhere else and $200 is the cheapest of the consoles. PS2 and X-Box will both run you $299 (X-Box is not anymore expensive than PS2 except some stores are still only selling X-Boxes in bundles).

Good luck and happy gaming tonight! :)

If you want to play games now get the PS2. If you don't mind waiting a while for a library to build up it's between PS2 and Xbox unless you're into pokemon and mario in which case get gc.

does Project Gotham compare to GT3 ASBOLUTELY FRIGGING NOT.

BUY THE XBOX

Never buy old stuff, and the PS2 is nearly 1.5 yrs old! Would you buy a video card for your computer that old? I didnt think so. And the GameCube is just plain uninteresting to me.

EDIT: Buying a PS2 simply because it has more games is heavy impatience. All those who say buy the PS2 are just MS haters, dont listen to them. The XBox is the best.

Either that or you could enjoy the PS2 library now, and by the time the X-Box library has grown to a comparable size, it should have had at lease one price drop.

Think about this. How fast do you upgrade your games? With PS2 many titles, are you planned to get them all or only a few you really like. If you are the kind that like only a few titles and upgrade once in a while, the get the Xbox.

PS2 is a year old on the american market. Your not buying a video card, your buying a console system, so your comparision is null and void. Will XBox be better than the PS2 in a year? hard to tell.. Right now PS2 is king and has a tremendous library of quality games. ie MGS2, GT3, Devil May Cry, SSX Tricky, Ico, GTA3, Tony Hawk 3.

Get the PS2 SleepyGuy. You wont regret it.

Ok... i'm leaning towards the X-box at the moment because i like that fact that its new hardware... and i've seen Halo. PS2 has a huge selection that's for sure (psx as well)... oh boy... 6 hours to go... she's letting me spend around $600 (Canadian dollars) today! So that means I can get 1 game as well... ok, I'm jumping on the Xbox bandwagon... Xbox and Halo it is! Damn... gonna have to get a better TV soon! Thanks for the replies... oh for the guys who said get a Dreamcast... I already have 2 DC's... good systems and great games but i'm a tech freak and need "bleeding edge" crap! Laterz!

That comparison is meaningless. Totally. Would you buy a geforce 2 now or a geforce 3 is they were the same price but the geforce 3 hardly ran any game? Sure it's newer, but if the geforce 2 runs all the games you get that.

When the PS2 came out a year ago it had very few good games. It was a boring console. Now it's got the games. The Xbox doesn't. It's going to be 6-12 months to get a decent library out for the Xbox. In the meantime you can stare at your "new" hardware while others with older hardware are enjoying themselves.

Buying an older console is in no way analagous to buying an old video card or piece of pc hardware.

PREVIEWS being the key word. Take it from a guy who was fairly bored with his PS2 when he bought it a year ago and only recently is happy with it. When the PS2 came out DC people said it was crap because it's library sucked and PS2 owners scoffed... well DC owners were right. The DC WAS a better system because it had a lot of games. Now you get the Xbox and there are 2-3 good games, and then what? Nothing you're bored until something else comes out! Don't make the same mistake we made getting a launch PS2.

Geez, it took about 1.5 years after the original release of the N64 before even the first Zelda came out. A 1.5 year old console is merely a young adult in gaming lifespans.

Impatience!? :disgust: GAMES are the reason why we buy consoles. Why do you think I've been evangelizing the Dreamcast, which I just bought last weekend? The prices on Dreamcast items are so enticing and there are so many damn good and diverse titles. Sports, fighting, RPG, platforms, racing, arcade, unique titles...the DC has a ton of great stuff, all on a nifty piece of hardware. I'll have more fun on my DC than an XBox owner will have on their system over the winter months. Of course, the DC is terminal, but in terms of getting maximum fun NOW with a much lower cash outlay, you've gotta consider Sega.

You're crazy if you think these stores still have the XBox (or come Sunday), or the GC in stock. (If they do have it count yourself as very lucky)

Hmm...so.,..you are saying that people SHOULD have bought the N64, which got totally and completely owned by the PSX?

These "don't buy old technology" posts make it quick and easy to pick out who the console gamers are and who the PC gamers are.

I sure as hell would buy that 1.5 year old videocard if it let me run 10x more and better games than the new one.

PS/2 is the only way to go this year. It's about the games, not the hardware.
