I'm buying a car 800 miles away from EBAY.

Obviously, I'll take it to a random mechanic down there and have them check it out. Also, I know to check transmission fluid for red color, oil for gold color, and make sure no visible hoses broken etc.

Anything else I should check for?

I think I'm getting a pretty good deal, $1075 for a 118K mile foreign built car.

I've done the same. Do a carfax before you go. Take it to a dealer to be checked out. No money changes hands until you as happy with the car.

I bought a RV on ebay, it was in Texas- I am in PA.

Guess where it is now? Knoxville,TN!!!!!!!

Why, you ask, because when we were driving "the absolutely perfect needs nothing"RV home to PA, the WHEEL FELL OFF!!

No warning, going about 70 on I-81, blam no wheel.
Well two weeks and $3200.00 later, I am leaving tomorrow to drive 10 hours to pick it up from the garage and bring it the rest of the way home.

Make sure you only pay a deposit until you get it checked out you don't want something like this to happen to you.

This does not make for a good trip!!!!!!!

He said he was sorry

We talked to a lawyer and he said, we could go after him, but $3000 in legal fees would be gone before we even went to court since the guy is in Texas. He said better to just cut our losses and move on.

Kick the tires!--- the whole wheel fell off!!!! when does that happen?!?!?!!?

Wish me luck- hopefully by Sunday night I will be back home in PA with the RV.

Well hope all goes well for you. I haven't built up the courage to buy a car off ebay yet. Too risky IMHO.

You cant pay only a deposit and expect the seller to hand the car over. Its up to the buyer to have the vehicle (item) checked out BEFORE bidding. Once you bid, its contract and legally you can not weasel out of it.
People who do this kind of crap really bother me. If you have any reservations about the item you are bidding on, do your research FIRST and then bid.

On a side note, I bought my toyota truck off ebay. It was 400 miles away from me and I am still driving it about 6 months later. Fun truck, great in the snow, etc.

I doudt you would have been able to get dime out of the guy. As-is generally means as is no matter what falls off. Your only chance would be if you could some how prove the seller knew the wheel was about to fall off.

Slag, if a seller purposly left something out of the auction description it is not as represented, and there is no legal standing.
