Ok, so I just bought all the parts for my first computer that I'm gonna build myself.

I got:
ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo with K8T800 chipset
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
160 gb Samsung SATA HD
30 GB Western Digital IDE HD (from my old comp)
Radeon X800 Pro (but I'm trying to get it set up with my PCI version of a Radeon 9200, because my X800 hasn't been delivered yet)
512 sticks of Mushkin PC3200 RAM (x2)
A random CD-RW drive from my old dell
A DVD-RW drive, I forget the name of it
Antec Sonata case with a 350 watt TruePower PSU
Integraded audio
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1

The problem(s) I'm having, is that when I start up the computer, it recognizes the Samsung SATA HD, but when I try to install Windows XP on it, it doesn't detect that drive.

With the other drive, which already has Windows XP Home on it, goes to a blue screen of death when it trys to start up.

Ahh, it's so frustrating... I've been waiting over 6 months for this computer, and now I can't get it to work. I guess I should have been expecting this, though... :/

I've tried to set my old HD to both master and slave, and I'm pretty sure I set the jumpers correctly for both configurations. Should it be set as master or slave?

When I try to boot from the CD, it gives me three options: 1. Install Windows XP Pro (don't want to lose all the stuff on my HD) 2. Repair Windows XP Pro (I tried it, but it said it couldn't find it on the HD, probably because I have WinXP Home on the HD) 3. Exit

set it to master.

If you already have files on the drive then you'll have to put the drive in the computer you had it in before and save the files to dvds or CDRs.

Otherwise, use option #1 that you listed.

Hey it's EazyJeezy.

Ok, I finally bought a floppy drive for my new comp (forgot to order one with it), and I press F6 and that stuff. I choose to specify the drive manually, and it says to insert the disk into drive A:. I put the floppy in, and press enter, and it says no software could be found for the device... Anyway, thanks for the help.

Well, I went to the Samsung website, and in the FAQ I found there, it said to get the drivers from the motherboard CD. I went to the ASUS site, and I went to the FAQs. It said to go to the Support CD and make this floppy. I did that, but now I have another problem...

I press F6 when I put in the Windows CD. I put the floppy in... I press "S" to "specify the device". It then says to put in the disk labeled Manufacterer Support Disk, or something of that nature. I press enter to continue... and it loads for about 30 seconds, and then goes back to the screen asking for the Manufacterer Support Disk.

I NEED HELP! :( Also, should the HD be set as master or slave?

It comes back to that screen so you can load more than one driver, in the event that you have several controllers with different drivers that you want to enter all at once. Press Enter to proceed, like the instructions say. :)

It's SATA, there's only one drive per cable. So Master/Slave should not even exist.

Oh yeah, and do you think it might be a problem with my floppy drive? One of the pins is about half-way gone (I don't know how), but it seems to work fine in my other computer (I've only tried formatting a floppy, not reading from it).

I also tried another floppy drive, from a fairly old computer that I found in my friend's garage, and it had the same problem as the other. So I guess there is a possibility that both froppy drives aren't working properly. :/

You could set up your old 30GB drive as your system drive, if you need a temporary solution until you can get a working floppy drive.

Ok, I just took the floppy drive out of my step-dad's computer, so I can only use it for a day or two (until he gets back from vacation).

I tried loading the drivers with the new floppy drive, same problem. :/

I really really don't want to have to back up all my files on my old HD on CDs... It would take more than 30 hours. o.o My CD-RW is really slow.

You dont need to backup programs.

And, what do you have so much data for?

Go to BestBuy and buy a DVD burner or a External USB harddrive and backup your files that way. You can just return it at the end of the day.

Ahh, good idea zlooop! :-D

I'll try to get a ride to Best Buy (closest one is 45 minutes away). It sucks that there's no decent computer stores near here, so I might not be able to get a hold of either of the two anytime soon.

And I don't really have that much data, I didn't even think about not having to back up my programs. :/ Plus my CD-RW is very slow.

Oh yeah, that's not here yet. :/

I ordered it with my video card... which still isn't here. I hate GoGoCity.com, I'm never buying from them again. It's been almost two weeks since I ordered it.
