I'm building a new computer...

Hey I'm building a new computer, and the only thing I've ordered so far is the CPU and MOBO. Anybody know if these parts are good, if they aren't compatible, or if i should skip the part all together?

CPU: e6600 Core 2 Duo
MOBO: Asus p5w dh deluxe
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 7200 RPM
Video: Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT
Ram: OCZ Platinum Revision 2, 2GB
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700w

I have a 700w psu because I'm planning to buy one of the best DX10 cards out there when it comes out, so basically the 1900 XT is just to hold me off untill January 🙂

I would get an higher quality PSU, but not 700W. You won't need this even with a 200-300W video card. Maybe in the ~550W range max.

Any suggestions? Most of the lower watt psu's have pretty low 12A rails (I don't know much about psu's..) which is what I hear a graphics card uses.

Everything looks good except the RAM. You're better off getting Crucial or Corsair RAM. OCZ RAM and Asus mobo don't play nice together. Newegg has a very hot deal on the Crucial DDR2 800 2GB kit right now. It's OOS though.

I personally would stay away from OCZ RAM right now, but that may be just me. You could also get a 500W Seasonic instead of that PSU which would be more than ample for your needs.

Other than that it looks good...and expensive 😀

edit: geez, everyone is so much faster than me at getting responses out 🙁

Thanks, I think I'll get that ram or something similar from corsair. That gold looks awesome. And by the way, do the 12 volt rails really matter that much on a PSU, especially for future DX10 cards? I don't want to buy another 100 dollar PSU AND a 500 dollar DX10 card this January..

Anything wrong with this? Antec TRUEPOWER PSU

I would switch the HDD with a Seagate 7200.10 w/16MB Cahe and 5 year warranty .

Also I would chose a PSU from http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/psu-roundup_5.html]FSP Epsilon FX700-GLN (700W)[/url] ... from Epsilon ..

This is the best PSU I know :

The Seasonic PSUs are very very solid and well worth the price. But if you wanna go for the creme of the crop, get a PC Power & Cooling. However, for your system, an Enhance ENP-5150GH from ewiz.com will be plenty.

i've purchashed a WD caviar sata HDD before and it's had SMART errors since day one and overheats idling @ 50-60C while my 3800x2 idles at 39C. theres def a problem with the hdd, but i guess it can just be bad luck
