First thing on a cold morning is a great way to wake up.

Very good point. I run daily (or close to it) and I find it to be a very good way to get into the day. Running is no fun at first, buy after awhile you get used to it and it starts to benefit you in ways you would not have thought of. Stick with it, you'll be glad you did.

well, i was on hiatus for like a year. after reading this thread, and watching that show on the wb, high school reunion, i started jogging again. started monday and will go for a week at 1.4 miles (i run around a park and 2 laps is 1.4 miles so that's good enough for me), next week 2.1 miles, etc..

at least for me, the main thing was breathing technique. but another thing is will power and focus. sort of like "the little engine that could" and that "i think i can, i think i can" mentality. my first day was so-so. winded after jogging the 1.4 miles. yesterday was pretty good.

got in a good breathing rhythm so i was barely winded.. today though, i think in combination with working out my legs (i do weight training but got lazy with my cardio last year) today and had a mis-step in my breathing, i was tired as hell and my legs weighed a ton after about mile into my jog. well, alittle part of me was thinking, "i cant make it, i should just walk it off" but another part of me is saying i can do it.. (lol. i make it sound like i have an alter ego.. ).. just like that little engine that could (haha. i loved that book when i was a kid btw) so i finished jogging my 1.4 miles without stopping. felt like sh!t but hey. i did it.

1.4 miles in 12 min. which works out to an 8.5min/mile. i know. i know. not like i was running a marathon or broke any speed records but hey. for not jogging in a year (and plus i never really jogged great distances before either, most ive ever jogged was 3-4 miles), 1.4 miles my first week without stopping to walk is pretty good. now i wish my legs werent so sore the past 2 days..

You would be in better shape if you did some deathmatchin' in SOF2.
It's been reported that childrens heart rates increase when playing violent video games. I'll report that it has the same result in adults!

Go for a good cardio workout and hit the streets of Prague! ;)

I am out of shape too.. dammit!
time to get back into skiing or something again... not that that is bad... but it's just expensive.
I miss being active. :(
I want summer back.

Don't know if you can drive along the loop you took, but you could always drive around the loop to get an approximate estimation. (I'm sure yours is accurate though)

If your lungs are burning, that is a good thing. It maximizes the effeciency of oxygenating your blood and forces you to use all of the space inside of them too. Most people use about 60 percent of their lung capacity when they breathe by default. < (geeky example)...You will soon find that you have alot more energy and can run much easier within a few weeks. What he said. Jog ~half a mile to warm up, then sprint one of those 100m stretches, then walk one. Do this for 1km, then jog another 1km. Repeat 4 additional times. It used to be one of my favorite workouts with I ran track, it was so much more effecitve that any other workout I had tried.

Thats why you have the fast car, so you don't have to run! I know how you feel though, I used to be able to run about 9 miles in an hour, now I think I'll walk one... :D

hey, this is weird. yesterday I started to jog. I walked most of the 3 miles  but jogged whenever I can(1.5miles roughly). Man my legs are killing me. I was so weak after the jog that I barely got myself up the stairs into my house. LOL. I'm thinking about getting a MP3 player to keep me going. anything within $50 bucks? suggestions?

We have a rec center here at UCR but I never go to it. I should start going there after class on MWF because lately I havn't had that much energy.

oh yeah, and properly breathing helps too (at least for me).

Is there a specific rythm that is proper breathing, or just whatever I feel like that keeps it regular?

I find that keeping a slow and steady rhythm works best. Don't let yourself breathe too fast or you'll get a pain in your side.

same here. breathe in thru nose, breathe out thru mouth.. slow and steady.. or else personally, i get winded easily if i dont keep a rhythm.

I was kinda doing an in for two steps, out for two steps thing....

that's how i always do it...works fine for me....i can do a mile i know that, not sure about the 2.2.....pullups, we're probably in the same boat...i'll go home and see tonight

Or saved 50 bucks. Just measure how many steps it takes you to run 100ft, then keep a pace count as you run, give you something to do other than thinking how much your legs hurt. and a little brain execrise couldn't hurt.
