I'm an uncle :)

so, I got the call this morning that my sister went to the hospital and that they're going to induce labor... went to work, did my work thing, and then left an hour early so that I could go to the hospital to keep my brother-in-law/parents company.

when I was about a quarter of the way there, got a call from my mom who told me that my sister hadn't even gone into labor yet and that I shouldn't come and that she probably wasn't going to have the baby till super late tonight / tomorrow morning (in fact, I was directly told not to come).

so I turn around, go home, and what phone call do I get an hour after getting home? oh hey, my sister had the baby 🙁

yay for being an uncle! 🙂 but I'm totally peeved at my mom.

does it really make a diff if you were there? not like you were going to be in the room...

sounds like mom didn't want you around anyways...

Unless you were gonna be in there staring at your sister's vag as the baby was coming out, I think you'll be fine seeing the baby any time in the next few days...

Your mom screwed you. And your sister gave birth to your child. Man, how messed up is your family?

Haha. Funny, but screwed over != screwed.

Pretty much. You'll have many years with the kid.

I don't know. He is the father after all.

OP, I can see your point about being a bit upset with your mom, but the most important part is that the baby is here and healthy! There's no need to get upset over petty things like that.

I would have been upset had I missed my niece and nephews' birth though. Even though I wasn't in the room with my sister (I was 9 when her first was born), it was a huge rush out in the waiting room knowing that a precious baby was being born and I'd get to see it as soon as possible 🙂

Congrats on being an uncle!

Sounds to me like Mom was right to steer you away. You'd have been miserabl anyway, watching all that attention going to your sister and the baby rather than to you.

Buy the kid a pellet gun.

"You'll shoot your eye out!"
Jay Leno told a funny joke a long time ago while he was being interviewed by David Letterman. It went something like this:

"I had a B-B gun when I was kid. My mother kept saying I wouldn't be happy until I shot someone's eye out. With all due respect to my mother, I never shot anyone's eye out. But you know, I've never really been happy."

Your thread title made me believe this was about incest. Boy was I disappointed ...
