ok my friend has an old school compaq "internet pc", celeron, or rather the technical term "celery", anyway celeron 466 with an 810 motherboard pga370 of some type. will this thing support a coppermine anything, pIII or celery128<sorry, it slipped>. i've read over at tom's hardware<pretty good source> that some old socket 370 mb's were incompatible with the coppermine chips, due to voltage issues and pinout problems. how can i find out without plugging in a new chip and hoping, or does anyone know definitively?
thanks

Hey there man :)
with such an obsolete box i think you have no choice but to buy a new pc. It's not worth upgrading that old thing to another pretty old thing that you can only gauge marginal performance gain from. BTW old parts are rare and sometimes old parts that went out of production are more expensive than new ones
so salvage your monitor, harddisks and anything workable and buy a new budget pc...something between 1 ghz and 1.5 ghz...and put those salveged parts into it. hope this helps
