Been working in Tokyo for a little while now. Ran away to Osaka for the time being to get away from the craziness. Any other ATers in Japan? If you need assistance, japanese translation, etc. please PM me :)

Good to know you are safe. I know there is at least one or two others here in Japan. Why did you run from Tokyo, from what I understand it was minimally effected.

Been watching the news a lot more then I have been since this disaster happened. The devastation and how the Japanese are handling it are unbelievable. Stay safe.

From on earthquake standpoint, Tokyo was mostly unaffected, but they aftershocks aren't stopping and I'm tried of my building shaking. Also, the nuclear situation is pretty wild and since my employer is giving us time off and allowing remote work, it made sense for me to get to a safe (IMHO) place for a week or so (not to mention I've never been here, will tour on the weekend).

Opinions below:
I hope the nuclear situation gets better, but it has been going on for days, only getting worse. Injecting sea water is the last resort (read: desperate). There are lots of inconsistancies in Japanese news / foreign news and GOJ is witholding info (IMHO) to decrease panic. Remember, if it blows, one of the biggest cities in the world is going to go to shit. Its not like you can easily evacuate 35MM people...

Anwho, I just feel bad for the people north of Tokyo. No food, water, elec and if the plant goes they have no way of knowing...

I'll bet Japan completely cleans up and rebuilds long before the US gets the World Trade Center rebuilt. Goes to show ya the muck and mire political correctness tsunami that's ongoing and in progress in the US. Ten years later the WTC is still a hole in the ground.

yep. I can see this happening. The amount of political hurdles to cross to get anything done in this country is astounding.

No food in the stores, no gas for the trucks to deliver it, no gas for cars. I hope conditions are better for you in Osaka, OP.

Glad you are safe. If I was in Tokyo I would have ran as well. Probably would have left the country entirely, but at least you are further from the nuclear situation.

Stay safe over there OP.

Curious, I heard that there have been 400+ aftershocks, which have got to rattle everyone's nerves. How strong are they? I imagine some must be decent sized.

So, OP survives one of worlds biggest known quakes, survives hige tsunamis, survives aftershocks, goes to more stable and lower risk of radiation area, and then asks if anybody needs his help.....

Wow... I give this man 10/10 on the scale of awesomeness.

I read one story where a JA girl in the states found out her family was alive via youtube video. Internet wins again.

dpodblood: Still considering leaving the country, but my life is back in Tokyo, not to mention girlfriend, family, and many many friends are also in Tokyo/Tokyo area.

dfuse: The aftershocks was one of the reasons I left. Most of them are not too big ~3/4 and not directly in the Tokyo area, however, the other night there was a 6.2 in tokyo and for me it felt like the original. I live in a tall building that shakes a lot, so even the smaller ones bothered me. I haven't heard the aftershocks cause much/any damage.

BurnItDown: I think anyone would do the same in this situation. All we can do is bind together. To be honest, if I had a truck I would have gone to Miyagi by now. Seeing all the people on the tube without water, food, freezing and oblivious to nuclear threat is very frustrating.
