I'm afraid to purchase Watch Dogs...

...because I absolutely detest the controls in Black Flag. I have a hard time picking up and playing AC4 without getting frustrated when my character should jump or dash over something but instead stops to perch on it. I hate that everything is controlled with R1: running, climbing, jumping instead of being controlled manually.

Everything I've seen of Watch Dogs attracts me to it, but if the control scheme is anything like AC4 I'll have wasted my money. I know they are two seperate games, but they are produced by the same company. Should I be worried?

Playing on PS4.

If the game is good enough to overcome that then yes but we don't know. I hated Assassin's Creed precisely for this same reason, fighting and climbing mechanics were and still are horrible but I felt that the pirate part of Black Flag was so good that it made up for it. Let's hope this game does the same.

Climbing has always been a sore spot for AC. While there will be some parkour type stuff in Watch Dogs from the looks of it, I don't think it'll be as often or important as the AC series. Even if they used the same controls (which I doubt) I don't think you'd see it enough to be as big of an issue.

I'm also confused... Jumping with R1? I've played almost every AC game and jumping has always been A (for xbox, X for PS I guess).

I meant R2. I'm playing on PS4. Though the X button jumps while standing on the ground, it's not particularly necessary to do that at any point. Free running with R2 pressed is when all the important actions happen: jumping from tree limb to tree limb or roof to roof; jumping off roofs into bales of hay or diving off cliffes/ledges into water; climbing walls or ladders.

While it is a Ubisoft game, I don't think it will feel a lot like an AC game, or at least I hope it doesn't. I need something new to play on my XB1, so I am grabbing it on launch day with credit I have from some returned stuff.

I think it'll have controls similar to Assassin's Creed, but the gameplay won't be similar, so the control-based issues won't be the same. You won't have scaling issues because you don't climb buildings.

Also, American Gunner, send me a friend request on LIVE (Lil Frier), as I am getting this on day one as well.

You do know that Watch Dogs isn't Assassin's Creed and isn't a parkour game right?

Exactly what I was thinking. The entire themes are different. AC, you run around as an "assassin" aka ninja aka stealthy. Watch Dogs, you're a hacker, you don't run or jump or climb (unless you're being chased or chasing someone or something).

I thought it was funny. "Ubisoft makes assassins creed too and this is probably the same thing cause it is ubisoft again."

From the footage I've seen Watchdogs appears to control much like a traditional third person game. While it does have some elements of parkour it's much more limited than assassins creed, and it doesn't have a high profile/low profile mode like AC.

Being chased or chasing a target in AC4 is when the controls frustrate me the most. I don't want to be that frustrated playing Watch Dogs.

It won't be like AC. Most likely you will be chased and maybe required to jump some gaps or steps, so on. But you won't be climbing buildings or doing running jumps, swinging from things. I'm getting it on ps4. If you do get it you can add me: Selayan.

I'm excited to play it and have some friends getting it for ps4 as well so it should be fun figuring out how to enter each person's game.

I think you will use r1 or r2 to run so you can use the buttons for hacking and stuff. It's more of a gta style game than AC. The controls and repetitive gameplay of AC is why I haven't played past about 40% of black flag currently.

Yeah but from the looks of it, chases will use vehicles or just running on foot. It's not parkour-like and the objective isn't to get past obstacles to get to the person you're chasing.

It's just, use your environment for your advantage

Assassin's Creed does still have some sloppy controls. Climbing has always been annoying for me, as sometimes you'd end up going/jumping where you didn't mean to. At least they've improved significantly since the first game. Ugh, the first game. I still have nightmares.

I haven't bought into the hype for Watch Dogs. I see little point in grabbing games at launch anymore. It will be much cheaper in a few months.

I watched a 12 minute gameplay video from Japan of some more footage. It looks like there are items to climb and scale and it doesn't look like it is as tough as assassins creed. You won't be experiencing any control issues I think. The controls though are probably similar.

I've tried waiting a few months, but it always takes so long and I'm already excited by the time the game comes out. For example, Infamous SS. I didn't even really want it as bad as I want Watch Dogs, but still preordered.

I'm trying to save money with Watch Dogs but I want it at launch so bad

I wouldn't be afraid to buy it. I have been saying this will be GotY for awhile now. If the multiplayer adds actual replay value then I will stand by that statement 😛

Multiplayer is built into the single player. Little pop ups come in to let you know contracts available. Or you can go to online sections of the city to participate in free roam or other activities. When you are done you are still in the same world.

Can you free roam the entire world online like GTA? I've been watching footage of the game and it does look pretty good graphically like a HD GTA if that makes sense but the gameplay looks like there is too much shit going on. While driving there are pop ups everywhere and the same thing on foot. Like the game was made for ADHD kids who can't focus on one thing for more then five seconds

I already explained why in the PS4 thread but it's mainly due to the game prices being jacked up to $70 here. Just don't think they're worth that much. It's a lot to pay up front for a game I may not even like.

That's how you have access to hack stuff. The pop ups come up when you have your phone out for example when you profile someone or when you are driving and need to hack a street light, otherwise how would you know what you are hacking.

Yea the map is free roam, you aren't blocked in. You can take a train around the whole map when you unlock the hack the subway technique. Or you can drive around it too.
