I'm afraid to be serious. Are you?

Seriousness is expensive in the USA. I stopped talking to alot of people because they are too ignorant for me to bear. I've just had enough of their crap. Nothing exists outside of their little world of alcohol, relationships, and religion. Luckily I don't see them much so all it takes is a block on AIM.

Too bad you can't turn them away when they come to your apartment crying that their dads are disgraced by their wanting to leave the Biology major and be something other than doctors :0.

Dasm! So many posts I'd like to reply directly to, but time, bandwidth, and avoiding Neffiness makes me post this:

Those with <1k posts: Huh, you typed something? ;) :D

Those who avoid seriousness because of blank stares and people who want to exchange soundbites: Been there, done that. I've always been a curious person. As a child the World Book Encyclopedia was an awesome read, people from faroff places(even if they only were there for a period of time such as a Missionary) were absolutely fascinating to me, University students taking courses or people with Jobs/Careers that I have no knowledge of are the shiznit, and anything political/religious/philosophical/or problem solving related gains my immediate attention. On occassion I have found people who recognized my curiousity and were all too eager to give forth their experience/knowledge, even when they began talking over my head or quoting some guy/gal I never heard about, these people were fascinating to be around.

Then there is the flipside, those who ask questions they don't really want answered. Their eyes begin to glaze after a few words, soon they're checking out others in the room, need to go to the can, etc :D

Moonie: Like others, I too think that there are plenty of serious threads/posts here. However, I'd somewhat agree with you in the sense that there are no thoroughly serious discussions which seek to take a reasoned examination of an issue, compared to some other Message Boards such as Ars's Soap Box(although it has it's share of nonsense as well). Such is an open conversation though.

At times I post seriously when a subject is of interest, I have some grasp of, or even *needs* to be discussed due to it's immediate importance and potential consequence(Iraq, Global Warming, etc). However, eventually posting the same idea multiple times burns me out, that's when I just go making smart remarks(Neffing, umm kinda ;) :D ).
