I'm about to mod my PSU...***Mod Complete***

Well it's summer time and my computer is getting hotter. This Antec 480 does not exhaust enough air from my case and I'm convinced it's causing a case temp increase. So, I'm going to pull the power supply apart and disable the temp sensor that causes the fans to run so slow. Wish me luck...

hi,

you do realize that this may cause the fan to spin louder. if this is okay with you, that's fine, but many people, including myself try to get their PSU to spin quieter (and slower).

do you have any case fans exhausting air from the rear of the case, ..i'd take a guess that these are more effiecient at cooling your case than the PSU fans.

Well I just finished and I'm really happy with the results. It is louder than before (as expected), but now I don't have to worry about it overheating this summer with the overclock. While I was at it I also added a Panaflow high output 80mm fan to the SLK-800. BTW I have a Lian-Li pc65 case. My temps are now 37-38 idle and 40 max under load; a good 10-18C cooler than before. My case temp is now only 2-3 degrees above ambient which is about a 5 degree improvement.
To mod the PSU I opened it up and lengthened the wires going to each fan. I then stuck them through the grommet that the other wires go through and attached a standard molex connector. Now I can plug them into 12 volts or the fan only plugs if I want it quieter.

upper 30's is still a pretty high temp for your case. I would look into more case fans or a better arrangement.

Those high 30 temps are the cpu; see my sig for my overclock. Note that the case temps are only 2-3 degrees above ambient. It doesn't get any better than that.

Just noticed your signature: "1700+ OCed to 2400 Mhz w/ 200 FSB. (2) 512 sticks HyperX3000 insync, dual channel, cas 2.0 5-2-2". Does this mean you've overclocked the RAM from 370MHz to 400MHz to match the FSB? If so, let me know, cuz there's a website selling 256MB HyperX3000 for $50, and I may just snag a couple.

That's right, the ram is overclocked (just like everything else in my system). I also noticed the price of the 256 sticks getting cheaper. I paid $300 canadian for my 1 gig of it. I would never even consider the higher priced ram after trying this HyperX out.
