Not many people ends up with what they really want to do. Even if you got the right degree ten to 1 you'll end up doing something else or vice versa. I got a degree in heavy current electrical ended up being a cop for 7 years then started dj ing and fixing mobile phones.

Having said that, a graduate program without some sort of research project is a bit wasted. I opted to do a 2 course equivalent research study supervised by a professor: it worked out great.
True, but for a lot of people, this is exactly what they want, especially if its a non-thesis Masters in the same field as their Bachelors.
Get done within a year, minimal expense and reap the beneifts of increased pay.

Heck, I think that there are non-thesis Doctorates, though I have no idea how those work 😵

Just out of curiosity, why did you choose ME if you knew you were interested in computers? Were you talked into it?

I finished with a BS in physics. No one would hire a non-PhD in physics and in '07-08 when the economy started to go down the hole. Then went on to get a MS in CompEng in '09 with a job offer before graduation.

Worked in SW for a few years and ended up doing something not related to programming. But still relevant to computer engineering.
