I barely game on my main rig anymore, and both pcs have a few weird glitches/crashes that happen every once in a while.

I just aint top notch tech savy anymore, and dont want to deal with this crap. Anyone else give up completely lately and just buy factory pcs?

Edit - Examples:

PC #1
N7F-S Motherboard
Athlonxp 2800+
Radeon 9800xt 256mb
2x512 PC3200 DDR
8x DVD Burner
80gb HD

Every once in a blue moon it starts beeping at me and powers down. I think it might be heat related, but really dont know. Tried looking up beep sequences, and nothing matched. Doesn't happen all that often. Also, never installed the back USB pieces, which are probably long gone, so I'm living with 2 usb ports. Audio is messed up, and only get 1 channel. SATA hardware is borked as well.

PC #2
A64 3500+
AV8 Motherboard
Geforce4 mx 4000 128mb
2x512 PC3200 DDR

About once a week it flat out freezes. Was going to use as a gaming rig, but froze even more during games. Not heat related. Reinstalled 5 times and got nowhere. This is my wife's pc and is total overkill.

Heh, You think your going to get a perfectly stable, working condition system from dell? BUahaha, I've had more problems trying to get my dell systems running smoothly (that means not crashing) than systems I've built. The dell systems I have (their laptops are even worse) suffer wierd glitches and all sorts of other problems that really piss me off that I can't seem to figure out as to their cause. I hate dell, they build POS systems, they used to be good but now are garbage.

I would have said the same thing when I was 17 and was crazy about upgrading and keeping things rock solid. Now I just dont have the time to care. Maybe I'll convince the wife to sell both computers and just get a new laptop. She has one too already.

Nothing wrong with Dell. I had a great Dell that worked perfectly for 2 years before I sold it for $500 to someone else in need of a new computer. Dell are good at what they do.

I have Alienware now because it was cheaper than Dell, believe it or not.

I'm fine with a little $40 athlon chip, but give me a $300 X2 & I get the shakes. If I mess up, I'd probably put my head through the wall & half my furniture with it. If Dell was more customizable & didn't put in any proprietary parts, I would of bought from them long ago.

Good point. All my family members have used emachines for a while. Never any issues with them, they are also great and even cheaper than Dell sometimes.

Dell customer service was great for me. They exchanged my computer when my video card was messing up. It came back with a better video card too. Not a problem since then.

Teh Edge=Glitches.

I fix some, live with others.
Some can't be fixed yet so I wait for a new bios and it heals up.

I'm living with a borked boot sequence right now. I half fixed it through some perseverence and a BIOS update.
In three more months it'll be a memory.

Laugh this off lugnut...

I'd certainly like to see some Hot Deals come back before Christmas. Got at least a couple people who want one.

I think their quarter ended in Nov so I don't know if you'll see anything as hot as that.

Well, if quarters are 3 months long, it's now almost 6 months after that particular posted deal.

If you don't game (Blasphemer!!), it's hard to beat the price on a web & email Dell.. .it's when you get into gaming rigs that the price & flexibility favor DIY. The problem with Dell is the phenomenal amount of bloat they come with. They're also using the same OS and hardware in your average DIY rig, so you're just as likely to experience glitches and such. And on LCDs... I didn't appreciate them till I got one, it's  :D On Dell, it's 50/50 I guess, in your situation. "Bob" with his thicker-than-life accent, isn't going to be able to walk you through any glitches with the script he reads from, that's for sure.

If you are gonna dump customs :(, at least go with HP or eMachines.

Dell = *shudder*
