I'm about to buy a car on eBay...

I'm seriously thinking about using the buy it now on this auction. Looks to be in great shape, loaded, low miles, and I've heard the 3800 is a great motor. A quick carfax inquiry reveals only 2 records in their database which means it was definitely a 1 owner vehicle. Any unbiased opinions out there?

Shrug, go for it if that's what you want. Don't see a problem with it.

The only time I would buy a vehicle on ebay would be if it was near me, so I could at least drive it, or if the seller adds a clause to their auction stating that if there was something wrong with the car that the seller forgot to mention, the buyer wouldn't want the car after finding out about the defect, they could end the transaction, no questins asked.

What rbloedow said. I would never buy a car without test driving it first or having it looked over. Read the fine print:

We Welcome Pre-Buy Inspections And Guarantee Clean Titles. Winning Bidders Should Contact Us By Telephone Within 24 Hours Of Auction Closing Or Vehicle May Be Sold To Another Purchaser Or Re-Listed At Seller's Discretion. We Sell At Wholesale Prices And Cannot Provide Spare Keys And Floor Mats Unless They Are Already With A Vehicle. We Cannot Be Held Responsible For Expenses Or Repairs Beyond The Point Of Delivery. This Vehicle Is Being Sold 'As Is', Unless A Warranty Is In Effect From The Factory. We Cannot Be Held Responsible For Errors Or Omissions In Our Listing Options

Bwahaha, I nearly spit water all over my keyboard! I was expecting your link to point to a nice Camry or Accord for about the same price. Wasn't expecting to see a green ricer. That's hilarious!!!

But it has an Iceman Cold Air Intake system! Least he isn't using his stock air intake :p ;)

And yet I currently have the stock intake on the motor I just swapped into my Accord:p

Yea, I was trying to refer to that since OS mentioned it. Any pics of your swap?

Pics These aren't up to date. Since these were taken I've driven the car (FUUUUUUUUUUN!!!) but found my rear main seal self-destructed so the motor is coming back out this weekend so my buddy and I can fix it.

Good car, why not wait another day or 2 and if the bidding keeps going up then BUY it now, but if not just bid on it at the last second, like a dollar below what the buy it now is, that way you get it for a grand or more cheaper. BUT if you need the car NOW then use the buy it now.

And if it has a problem that was not listed, don't worry, you can still back out, its in eBays terms for listing.

$2000 for motor/tranny/ECU. I've prolly spend another $1500 for parts (header/clutch) and various wear items I replaced (timing belt, seals, gaskets, etc.) It runs great:)

I don't know if it is a great deal or anything like that but I can vouch for the 3800 engine. I have a 1992 with a 3800 in it and a 1989 with the 3800 in it. Both run great and both have over 150k miles on them. Looks like a decent deal to me.

It'll definitely hit the track after I get all the bugs worked out. I'm think low 15's should be easy.

Buying a car from ebay is no different than buying a used car from a dealer or anyone else. Or at least it shouldn't be.

You should still get a trusted mechanic to look it over completely before buying. If the car is not local to you, then you should factor costs of doing all of it remotely into the price. It may even make sense to fly out to the car.

There are a number of reasons why someone would sell a car on ebay vs using a more local service. Make sure you know why they are doing this and are comfortable with it.

Good luck.
