Isn't that a wagon? If so, no.

I know, I love the new styling, and the horsepower is way up since my '96. But I have friends, and they don't like riding in my backseat.

The RSX really doesn't open up until around 50mph, has the typical 'too smooth' acura/honda feel in the engine, clutching is too mushy/easy on it.

It's a very nice car, but just didn't do it for me, I went with the Impreza WRX instead because I prefer the way it drives.

I see a lot of votes for the Type-S. Maybe I'll reconsider on not getting that. It's only a couple more thousand. :)

Re: the WRX: I've seen all the rave reviews about it on ATOT and elsewhere, but I can't get past the exterior styling. Sorry.

For that money, you could also consider a VW GTI 1.8T

It's great on power and roomier than your mustang too.
They are also very fun to drive in stick.

Seconded. How about an AUdi A3?
I like that car. I saw it in Europe. But, Premium gas only =

That's a good point. I hate buying a new car and then having an aswesomely redesigned version come out the next year :(

Yeah, thanks. I forgot about that car. I shall test drive one on the next nice weather day.

You have to rev the RSX pretty high to get any performance out of it. Depending on your driving style, that may be good or bad.

I would pass on the RSX. Its a common car that hasn't really done it for me since it first came out.

I liked the suggestion of the TSX and the WRX above. I would consider both of those (even used) before I bought an RSX.

I think the car that fits me best right now (31 and single) is the Acura RSX. It has a more usable backseat than my Mustang and it's stylish and rated highly in Consumer Reports. I'm not really big on horsepower, so I probably won't pay extra for the Type-S. I think I'll get a manual this time, since they're supposed to be more fun to drive and since my commute has no traffic.

So, I'm posting to get any other car suggestions or comments. Should I spend the extra and make it my first brand new car, or should I get a slightly used one?

I test drove the '05 Celica GT and the Scion tc at my Toyota dealer this weekend. I liked the tc better, but at 31, I don't think it's for me.

Go!

Get the Type-S and get the 6 speed manual and learn how to drive a man's car for christ sake! You won't regret it. I've driven the RSX-S and it's a fun little car. I don't know that the back seat is any bigger than a Mustang though. I've owned 2 Mustangs and I've test driven a couple RSX-S's. They were about the same as far as interior room goes.

Too expensive.

Ok. I always thought of it has a great alternative for a practical sports car. 4 doors, "ok" power, RWD, great handling, and good styling.

After riding in a friends WRX - I'd have to say you should really consider it. The engine sounded great ;) I have also driven the RSX-S, and I absolutely adore the clutch and shifter, and the handling was great too. Didn't have a chance to push it hard, considering it was a new car.

Drive them both, pick what you like. ;)

depends on what you want from a car.

The RSX (one should only look at the type-s) is blast to drive. But of course there are many other factors in your decision.

Why not a traditional 4 door but in a sporty package. For example, Sti or Evo, both have more usable room than an RSX, and both are fun to drive. They are cheap to own, well built, reliable, and have good resale value. Get it in a sedate color, black or silver, take off the boy-racer wing, and you have a excellent car with high performance potential.

Are you kidding? The RSX I bought hasn't depreciated more than $400 since I bought it used last march.

Summarily the RSX has more room than my moms X5, and definately more than the STI or Evo, especially with the coupe fold down back seats.

I love my RSX, but buy the Type S if you want more pep.

I thought you had an S2000?

If 20K is your budget, consider an accord coupe also, even just the i4. The i4 in the accord is the same family motor at the RSX, but the accord 2.4 makes more torque. Dynos floating around the net also generally show the accord making more WHP than the RSX despite the same paper rating. Main trade off is handling is not as good.

Have you looked at the 05's? I was the same way until Saab redid the interior for them. I think it looks great now. I can take pics of the interior of mine or you can view them at their website.

There are two schools of thought, I don't prefer that method of driving. There is nothing wrong with it as I stated in my post (that you apparently glanced over).
