You should try cutting a chocolate bar into pill size pieces and try swallowing them. If you can do that then just convince yourself that a pill is really food for your body and eat them. Just have to break the phobia that usually starts the first time your mommy/daddy made you take something nasty to make you get better when your sick. Especially if you threw it right back up, that just reinforced the phobia.

By changing the way I thought about pills I went from only being able to take one at a time with a drink to being able to swallow a whole handful at once with no gag reflex at all.

But watching fear factor still gags me when they are eating bugs and the other extremely gross things they actually eat.

........................edit.............................
Or you could go the Mary Poppins way and put the pill in a spoonful of honey and then put it all in your mouth and then take a drink of water to wash both the honey and the pill down.

I absolutely hate needles too. (That includes shots.) Every time my blood is drawn--except for the VERY rare occasion--it takes at least two tries for them to get my blood. The first time I had an IV, it took them four tries to get one in. :( You'd think that after all the surgeries and stuff I've had that I would be used to needles, but NOPE...not true at all. I hate 'em! :| :( lol

I can swallow about 5 nice sized pills(well, vitamins in my case) without water. I never actualy take drugs in the form of pills(I never take advil or anything like that). Until I was about 11, I could never swallow any pill, even with water

Because you need the water to help dissolve and absorb the pill contents - otherwise it just rots your stomach/intestinal lining.

I haven't been able to ingest any pills since I tried to kill myself and ate ~3 bottles of assorted pills. Was sick for 3 days, couldn't even hold down water. Since then I haven't been able to eat any pill whatsoever. There was one instance where I did, but I had strep throat and had a fever of 104. I was hallucinating from being sick and ate the medication without even knowing it. Any other time I can't force myself to even raise my arm to my mouth.

So the stomic acid and other fluid already in your stomach don't do anything to the pill?

My little sister can't swallow pills either (though she's only 11 so I don't think that would relate).

I don't have a problem, and I rarely use any water. I can even get down some Lysine tablets with no water, and they are quite large and definiately NOT gelcapped.

Best is Claratin, it has a candy-like coating.
