If you install XP on your mac
Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of getting a mac?
Yes.
It's a lot cheaper to just install OSX on a PC (google it) to run the handful of Apple apps worth running.
$$$ goes a lot further with a PC, and if you have even remotely decent computer skills, you can keep it secure.
Yep, I've read up on the Hackintosh. A friend of mine wants a new Mac despite all of the stuff I've told him about how he can make his own for half the price. He just goes, "But, I don't wanna do all that hacking stuff!" This guy has done multiple linux installations and dual booting stuff - it shouldn't be a problem. IMO Macs are an excuse to be lazy and not actually learn about the computer - just spend a bunch of extra money to have everything done for you, and most Mac users don't use half of what they can.
