I'm a PC guy, but the iPad 2 is amazing.

oh snap? 😉

Not really. Other tablets are catching up to the iPad really fast.

iOS 5 will have to swallow some pride, or introduce some major game-changing features to hold on. At this rate, Google only needs a bug fix patch for Android Honeycomb to make it almost a perfect laptop replacement. Most of the issues and kinks related to Flash and HTML5 were suddenly solved overnight by Opera.

Right now I can subjectively say that web browsing would be superior to my iPad 2. No checkerboard pattern, no stuttering, both HTML5 and Flash are supported, user-agent spoofing, autofit texts upon zooming in, downloading obviously works on all websites, uploading is supported even on Flash forms, and Flash support comes with click-to-play so I don't have to load Flash ads.

And all of that happened overnight.

Everyone mentions this, and maybe it does affect you, but there are SO few times this has been a problem for me I could literally count on one hand.

Essentially all video sites worth visiting are in HTML5 now.

What pages are you going to that don't have flash?

Have to agree here. Using my iPod Touch 4th gen, I really haven't run into a situation where I was like "damn, which I had flash right now."

The Motorola XOOM and Samsung Galaxy Tab do have Flash 10.2 support.

Though contents beyond 360p are arguably not viewable, most videos at least play back without major issues. And scrolling or zooming isn't choppy anymore with Opera Mobile 11, so at this point, Adobe and Opera have finally proved that there is a solution for Flash on mobile devices that doesn't run slow or kill battery life.

It took a whole year for that to happen, though.

IIRC, the XOOM doesn't support Flash yet.

It appears my nook color, my $200, nook color does. Not sure about when the xoom will get it, if it doesn't already. Now the iPad, not sure if that will ever get it.

I would take a iPad if given one, the sell it to help fund getting a mac book pro.

Have you gone into a store to confirm that you cannot view the videos on those sites?

Have you gone into a store to confirm that you can view them on another tablet? Because last I heard (and this may have changed) there is no Flash on anyone else's tablet either.

No and no.

Very interesting if true tho.

Well, apparently the Android tablets DO have Flash after all, and allegedly it works well, without stuttering or killing the battery life.

I would still say that it would be best to verify though.

I've tinkered with a Xoom at Best Buy, and I don't know if it's the hardware, software, or combination of the two, but it is currently way too choppy to be considered anywhere near a laptop replacement.

Wow, how'd you guys get yours? I've got cash money in hand to buy one today, and there isn't anything but a 64GB model within 50 miles of me. Seems like my Apple stock would be higher... 😛

That's precisely why it needs a patch to improve performance.

Honeycomb does have a number of features and UI elements that make it much more useful than the iPad as a laptop replacement.

Granted, I usually think in two ways. With iPad, I think of it as something I use in conjunction with my PC network, which makes it far more useful than my MacBook. But I still would like to see it work well as a standalone computer for when I don't have access to my network and I need to do some computing work.

It actually makes me wonder if ASUS's Transformer tablet is going to be any better? It seems like they have mostly the same hardware (probably because Honeycomb was built around Tegra), so they only have to worry about whatever issues currently plague HC.

Even though I have an iPad 2, I'm still probably going to pick one up. Being a technophile is such a money sink sometimes 🙁.

I ended up driving 90 minutes each way into New Orleans and getting an iPad 2. The Apple Store experience is pretty darn weird. I've had easier job interviews. 😛

Anyway, I picked one up. I'm typing on it now. It's pretty neat. I got the wireless keyboard, which is really nice. The whole package is slick. I think this will make taking notes at school a lot easier, and it will be *awesome* for reading and browsing.

So far I'm happy. It was fun to drive over the Causeway again too.

The keyboard desperately needs home and end keys though. AT is a pita without them.

If you are talking about the hardware keyboard, try hitting CMD+left/right. If the software keyboard, you may be SOL

No dice on the hardware keyboard. Thanks though.

I just watched an episode of Futurama on Netflix on this thing. I'm impressed.

I just like the whole integration of iPad, Apple TV, and AirPlay. Very slick. I still hate iTunes but Home Sharing is very nice.

Am I just completely backward to not have ever owned an Apple product? My only dealing with Apple have been with my girlfriend's Shuffle that "had" to use iTunes. That piece of shit went strait off my computer and I replaced it with SharePod. Much more intuitive, well designed and uh.... free.

I just don't see Apple's way of requiring both proprietary hard AND software as preferable. I plan on getting an older 2g iPhone and unlocking it for my network to play some infinity blade and just mess with it.....
