I've had the urge to buy a giant slot car set and setting it up in my dorm so me and my suitemates can sit around all night, squeezing a trigger and racing each other all night long. The fun would get even better when alcohol is introduced... but who needs that? We'd have slot cars to entertain us!

It's not like we'd even have room for it

geno, it's not about having the room for it, it's about making the room for it :)

you should find one that works sideways (I think there are some out there that do) so you could put it up next to a wall. It wouldnt take up any of your precious space that way...

Tell you one thing, if I have a son, he's gonna have slotcars.

One other thing, I'm going to setup a train running around his room near the ceiling that way it can run around without being interrupted. Over doors, closets, with rails of course so they don't fall 7 feet if indeed they ever do fall off the track.

I had a freaking huge setup when I was a kid. This was around '78-'80. The brand was 'Aurora'. The cars were small with magnets helping them to stay on track.
:D

So you are planning to be Mr. Rogers? Will your train go to a puppet land?

I have a huge slot car set. Probably almost a quarter mile of track. no joke. I forget the brand, but it was one of the super popular ones. ( figures right? ) pretty much everyone on the block got a kit, then the next year, eveyone had them out for garage sales. I bought them all up. When I was 17 or 18, my brother and I set up every piece of track we had. It went all over the house. We had 4 straightaways up and down the flight of stairs. I think we went into every room except one of the bathrooms because there was nto enough room to turn it around. Just abotu every plug we passed we hooked up one of the power transformer things. There were splices everywhere, and boosters so the signal would travel over the whole course.

It took us a good 2 days to set up and debug. Every time something moved, a piece would disconnect somewhere. the tuns at the bottom of the stairs, and some of the crossovers ( height wize ) were a pain in the butt, but it was totaly worth it.

I still have it all in the attic.

you are in college (which is probably going to be a peak of your existance), and you are posting at Anandtech (one of your 10000+ posts) about fvsking slot cars on a Saturday night...

step away from the keyboard, power down the grid of electrons, and step outside.
