I ran into some problem I was going to run cat 5 cable from the basement (where my router is at) to the first floor (my tv and htpc)
fail #1, where the tv is located it's above my basement bathroom so I cant drill a hole🙁

ok fine I picked up 2 trendnets power lines network adapter and a network switch
so I hook everything up to the switch and nothing
when I use the powerline to the pc it works fine but hooking up to the switch and then to the pc I get nothing (just a bunch of flashing lights on the switch)

is there something I have to do to config this (cause i thought all I had to do was plug everything up and it would work)

🙁

edit I need the switch because I need to hook up a blu-ray player (for netflix and pandora) the tv (for updates and widgets) and my htpc (for porn 😉 heh)

Are you connecting this switch to a home router? If so you may need a crossover cable between the home router and the switch.

Home routers are essentially a router and switch built together, so you are pretty much connecting a switch to a switch which would need a cross over cable... unless of course the ports are auto-sensing and can switch like some NIC's do.

yea it's a home router
so from router to powerline network adapter(basement) use a crossover/patch cable
then
powerline network adapter (first floor) use a crossover/patch cable to the switch?

so I would need 2 crossover cable correct?
thanks for the reply/help!!
