Well I made the plunge and got myself a Samsung 191T. Having used it for 2 days now, I'm very glad I made the investment. According to Newegg, the baclkight in LCDs should outlast CRT's by 1:2 ratio which is a comforting thought when I think about the 4 year old CRT I have still working as well as the 1st day I bought it and also according to them, the replacement of these backlight units are still advantageous for LCD. My question is, how much does replacing such a unit cost? I'm currently using the brightness near it's capacity so it's lifespan is likely shorter than if I were to use it in moderate settings. I just can't get it bright enough if it's not near capacity.

So does anyone know how much a 19" backlight replacement would run? Samsung does provide 3 year warranty so that's extra peace of mind.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it cause todays cost will most likely be much less later on when your 3yr warranty expires.

that's true, i wouldn't worry about replacing your panel.
I also own a 191T, but i toned the brightness down to 75%. Don't really know why you need to tune to full brightness on yours.

Shrugs, I just like it bright.

I can't believe I didn't buy one sooner. This 19" is a monster compared to my 14.1 laptop LCD and much much brighter.

Some people say the color reproduction is inferior to CRT, but I disagree. I just love how the colors are so much 'deep' and 'warmer' than CRT. Movies and games look great, aside from the ghosting issue :D
