I still remember when Grandpa grabbed a roll of paper towels and a spatula from the kitchen to scrape the dog off the road.

My mom hit a rabbit and it almost tore the bottom of the bumper completely off!

^No way wtf? How can a rabbit do that?

I have no fucking idea, I just remember seeing the damn thing dash across the street... Then it sounded like something getting caught in a lawnmower
We reached the house I checked out the damage and it ripped / curled a strip about 6 inches wide 4 feet long off of the bumper!
We just ordered a new bumper off of ebay for $250 ish (I think) then $75 (I think) for the painting. Took 15 mins to snap on.

I later bought this car from my parents for $10,000 two years ago :D

was it this rabbit?

The damn thing was tiny, it did so much damage :\

i can sympathize... it sucks to hit any animal, for me.

but, you're a douchebag for not taking the cat to the owners so they could ury it. i'd be heartbroken if my cat never came home and i never found out why :(

i'd want the guy who accidentally hit my cat to tell me. you would too.

For once I agree with eits. My kitty got out one night and didn't come home, which was extremely out of character. I was worried all night, then the next morning founding him on the side of the road. Some douche had hit him and bailed. I can understand accidents happen, but at least make an effort to contact the owner. Pets are more than just animals, they're members of a family.

oh, i know im not a murderer. i love cats, i was just saddened that the poor thing was probably going to curl up and sleep with it's owners tonight. now, well not so much.

i like your style, kid. way to compare a cat to a five year old human...lmao.

I think this never happened and is just a troll thread rationalizing how it's ok to kill a cat, know who may own it, but just leave it there.

The latter point is obvious that a cat isn't equal to a kid, but that a kid could have been running out in front of you just the same.

Thing is, you are a rational person and you think this guy was a douche. Imagine if someone with an IQ two standard deviations below yours, and the right to own a gun, had been the person contacted?

It might not end well.

because we all know dogs don't like to roam around, marking territory, and copulating... nope, that's a cat's domain.
Society has more problems with roaming dogs than roaming cats. Preferably I would let all dogs roam free, however dogs are more prone to exposing themselves to danger than cats (who usually has more road sense than dogs!). Added to the fact that roaming dogs can be seen as a hazard, as a minority of them may attack.

That is why dog owners should take their dogs for walks. I take my dog for walks for around 3 hours at least a week. Admittedly I would take him for walks more often, but time is a fickle bitch when university is 1.5 hours away both ways.

that is harsh; one of the best things you can do for your quality of life is live close to your work.

So why such a commute? living with the rent-free 'rents?

I agree, you make a good point, you can't take your cat for a walk... reasonably.

you are either a douche behind the wheel or have awful luck. I've hit one opossum in my entire life, that's it. when I see a squirrel near the road I slow down. if you take out animals all the time you should probably slow down a bit.

One night, I hit 2 rabbits and a possum within 35 minutes. I had never hit an animal before that night, and I have never hit an animal after that night. My driving wasn't different that night, either. It was absurd, the animals were waiting on the side of the street under cover and would dart for my tire as I approached. I was legitimately shaken when I got home and felt terrible. :(

I struck a black cat with my truck one night. The damn thing was chasing a white cat across the road. I was able to avoid that one, but by the time I noticed the black cat chasing it - well, it was too late.

I picked the body up and placed it on the sidewalk. The body was intact, but I could feel that at least one limb was broken. I wrote a note that I signed anonymously and put it underneath the cat's body.

I felt pretty bad, but all four of our cats are strictly indoor animals.

My tally is 3 cats and 1 dog.

The cats were just impossible to avoid. In all three cases they came streaking out from the side of the road, in the dark, at full speed. I would have just enough reaction time to get my foot to the brake pedal and not even push it and they'd already be under my tire. Felt bad but they shouldn't have been out roaming free.

The dog I did feel bad about because I actually missed him at first. He shot out of the woods on my side of the road and I had time to brake hard to avoid him. But then the car coming the other way clipped him with the front left side of their bumper and it threw him right back in front of my car where I proceeded to go over him with both left side tires.

I called the cops like you're supposed to and the officer and I found out from a neighbor who's dog it was. It looked like they were home, tv on, whatever, but he couldn't get anyone to come to the door. So we carried the pooch over to the shoulder by their driveway. It was a nice Husky too. Looked like he had one of those invisible fence collars but maybe the batteries went dead in it.

I hit someones dog one time. It was on a 25mph residential road, pitch black (about 11pm), and the dog was completely black. I didn't see it until it was 10 feet in front of my car.

I went and found the owners because it was still alive (looked like it was gonna die though). I couldn't live with myself if I drove off and left it to die.

Luckily the thing made a full recovery. I think it had a broken hip or something, and was just in shock after I hit it.

tonight, at about 9:15, i took the life of another being.

i completely destroyed a cat in the middle of the road. i swear, it honestly just appeared... =/

usually i dont feel bad about running over things, i take out rabbits, turtles, coons, opossums all the time...but this was a cat.

and it had a collar on it, with a nametag that i was not about to try and touch.

i probably killed someones best friend today. RIP little buddy.

I have never hit anything living yet in my life. Fingers crossed.

You never know how people will react under stress. They'll most likely blame you.

some people flip out some don't. When one of my cats got hit a few years ago the person who hit it was worse off then i was. she was hysterical and we had to call someone else (i think her mom) to come and get her because she was unable to drive home. literally she was just balling like someone just told her he parents died
