What do I need? Doesn't matter if it's intel or amd.
I don't want to spend like more than $2.5 k

I found out that I'm a hardcore gamer who likes eye candy

are you gonna build it or do you want to buy it? do you need everything (cdroms, hds, monitor, kb, etc) or just the basics.

You need a fast processor (probably Intel unless you're plopping down on an Athlon 64) and a nice video card like a Radeon 9800. You'll want tons of ram too (maybe 1gb) and a nice sized hard drive (120+GB) to install games (and other stuff).

3 threads on the same thing? in 2 days jeez. Like we said get a high end p4 or a64 an 9800 pro , either raptors or some 8mb cache drives and a gig of ram.

Hey tret please leave the original thread titles in place when you're done with a thread, since browsing and the search function are useful with a title like "low end gaming card" but are useless with titles like "dead" and "thanks."

Yes, in the system I use the most (gaming system of course) I use a WD 80GB SE for my system drive and have it dual boot with 2 installs of WinXP Pro. I install all my apps to that drives and that is about it. It wastes a lot of space but you can not find a small and fast HD. I put all my games and other data on my second drive (RAID 0 SATA with 2 80GB Seagates). I would add a 3rd 120GB WD SE for backup if I did not have a backup server on my LAN.

with 2.5K your pretty much in the clear to get some of the best of everything. Cept may A64 or P4EE...and even then...
