I understand you completely. The last sentence you just made is infinitely better than the way you said it before. I'm not patronizing you, either -- I'm just happy that you said it in a clearer manner.

The only response I can provide is that, as I said in an earlier post, the views posted on this message board come from an extremely small sample of what is a largely homogenous sample of people (younger males). If someone posts something that is stupid and negative about Canada, just think to yourself, "What a buttplug," and let it go. And laugh at him, too.
 
All I can say about this is "Blame Canada.."

For exactly what, however, I know not. Eakers, I don't care what they say about you, we love you anyway..

btw: i use the word tuque and my parents and brother only drink homo milk (i dont cuz ITS SO FREAKING GROSS, ITS LIKE DRINKING CREAM!)

You asked if we use the word tuque. I think there was as slight miscommunication.

In summary yes canadians - or anybody for that matter - should use the word tuque when referring to wooly hats with pompoms on the top. This word is used when referring to said article, and at no other time.

Because it sounded as if you're unsure of what that rather large piece of land right above you is called. If that's not what you meant, I apologize.
 
The US has its own states to sterotype and make fun of... hell, when I travel, I get this whole Texas routine from people up north -

Up north - "Hey man, whats your horses name?"
Me - (your mom)

Up north - "Dude, can you like ride a bull?"
Me - (ask your mom)

Up north - "Wheres your cowboy boots man?"
Me - (...)

I can't wait til I go up to Seattle in February... 😕

As a NYer who has been to Toronto and Montreal, I have to say Canadia (home of canadians), is pretty nice. Clean n stuff also, and the CN Tower is high 🙂

But eakers, you don't like Our Lady Peace?
I saw them in concert (for free), and they were intense.


Isn't Alex Trebek a Canadian, too ?

You forgot Gordon Lightfoot. While I have a multitude of issues with the type of government, I do like Canada. All the socialists in the world couldn't ruin the unspoiled beauty of the northern wilderness. (Well, maybe if they populated it or something, but just having them in the government wouldn't ruin it.) And just to be clear, I have nothing against socialists personally, I just happen to disagree with their views.

Actually, Canada gives the US most of its entertainment. Lots of stars from Canada in the US.

As far as bashing Canada goes, I don't know what your talking aboot.
 
From a neutral European's viewpoint.........

I have lived in US for past 3.5 years and visited Canada for first time a few months ago.
I much prefer Canada to the USA (or at least my East coast US experience thus far).......if I could move to Canada, I think I would.
 
hmm, I can't say much about Canada since my only experiences with it have been for less than 6 hours at a time. As far as some of the language jokes though, some of those are true. Where I work, just a couple of days ago I had a Canadian couple come through my line (I know they were Canadian because they mentioned it). Funny thing is when the woman asked me something, at first I couldn't even tell she was speaking in English because her accent was so different from what I'm used to. Now that's all I have to say aboot that.
 
I agree that many of you Americans really shouldn't talk when it comes to asking about stereotypes by nationality (the word taken literally). Before I came to AT, I too figured Americans would be centrist in the same way most Canadians are - socialist thinking in some areas and absolutely capitalistic in others. It's a mix that works amazingly well for our relatively tiny population (1/10th of the States).

Then you come here...red and white flags emblazoned all over...looking down on those wussy beatnik Europeans...advocating strikes on whichever country doesn't immediately agree with your policy...I could go on. To we outsiders, you can't help but laugh incredulously at the self-involvedness of it all. We love you guys and we've got your backs however well we can cover it, but when it comes right down to it a very large portion of Americans here at AT act very typically American.

Could it be that's because they ARE American? 🙂

Edit: Stereotypes are there for a reason. People just don't pull them out of their ass. There are Americans who do all those things and there are Canadians who DO say aboot and wear tuques. Why can't we just agree to make fun of each other? 😛
