Buy a portable tramboline.

I'm 6' and I got MAD hops your height has NOTHING to do with your ability to dunk a basketball, ask Spud Webb.

Your inability to dunk has nothing to do with your pathetic loser status. Those are two different things.
Not that I would have personal knowledge or anything.

Yes.
I'm 6'2" and I could dunk the ball up until I screwed up my ankle really bad (skateboarding) when I was 24.
Oh yeah, and I'm white.

Are you white? That would explain it.

Even 6'6" white guys should be able to dunk. He must be white and athletically challenged.

Hey, I'm in the same situation now. I protest the athletically challenged label though. I can bench 45 lbs more than when I played in school and still have much better hand-eye than most. I'm definitely still able to throw a football or baseball as far as I used to. But my leaping ability is lousy now.

I could dunk easily back in the days of college, practising several times a week and lifting at least 2 a week. I knew that I didn't have much in the way of natural leaping ability, but I was amazed when I discovered after college that almost all of my hops were gone. For some people jumping isn't natural, but can be greatly improved with proper lifting.

Don't rag on the guy too bad, how many people on this board can even make a layup? My rec league scares me in the wide variation of skill levels.

I'm 5'10" and I can dunk a women's ball, hands aren't big enough to palm a men's ball well enough. Vi_edit, I am a distance runner and I can still dunk. You need the explosiveness for the kick at the end.

Hey STOP rousting the guy.................He probably doesn't have the calves for it.

Work on the calves. Get them muscular. DO jump rope as well as leaping exercises.

You should be able to dunk *hard* within a month as calf muscles bulk up quickly. It's a great feeling to dunk! My bro was 6'5" and had the same problem until he worked on the calves.

wouldn't most people agree though that dunking is a lot easier if you can palm the ball fully?

i'm 6'4", but i still can't quite grip a full sized basketball with one hand, but i can dunk a volleyball for instance

am i missing something?

Yeh, it's certainly more difficult. If you can't keep a hold of the ball, then you have to use to hands to throw it down. Using two hands makes you loose several inches of reach.

Try using C4 for arch support.....that will give you the additional lift you need when you touch it off :)

All good but #3. Calf muscles have little to do with jumping. Most jumping comes from your quads and hamstrings.

Plyometrics help you jump...but also kill your knees if done wrong (which most people do). BE VERY CAREFUL!

Dunking a volleyball also requires less verticle (smaller diameter ball = less height needed to get it over the rim).

Little guys with small hands can dunk with one hand because they get sooooo high they are not palming the ball and reachingover the rim, but rather cradling it and throwing it down to the rim.

6'4" and used to dunk.

Poeple like spud webb used to "carry" the ball to the rim using centripital force by keeping the velocity of thier arm and hand moving faster than the force of gravity:)

You're right it's much easier to dunk if you can palm the ball though.

keep the ball resting on their palm as they jump. then turn the palm down to the rim. not too hard.

btw, i'm 6'1ish, white, and could dunk last time i tried (bout 6 months ago).
