I'm 21 and starting to get significant ammounts of grey. I'm going to boot camp this summer, so I really do not care too much at this point since I will keep it under 1/2" form now on anyway.

here's a forum

What little I know about this is because my brother started losing his several years ago at 18. Through dumb genetic luck I still have a full head of hair. First you should see a doctor to figure out if there isn't some other underlying issue. Assuming that this is male pattern baldness, for a young guy it's probably worth giving Minoxidil a shot if you're OK with spending the money to continually treat it, you can get generics over the counter. If it buys you a few years that's about all you can ask for. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, AFAIK there aren't really any nasty side effects.

With Propecia you're blocking an androgenic hormone conversion, the side effects can come in from increased estrogen as a result of that blocking. I don't know how common it is, but keeping your sex hormones balanced can get tricky if you're one of the unlucky ones.

Transplants are expensive and you can get butchered, but it's the only long term solution. When I browsed through that hairloss forum a while back, I don't remember there being a lot of fans of Bosley. They just advertise the most.

The stuff about looking at the males on your mother's side of the family is an old wives' tale, you can get it from both sides. In my case it all comes from my dad's side of the family.

are you thinning in the usual receding hairline spots or are you losing hair randomly all over ? If it's the latter, go see a dermatologist - they can give you cortizone shots to your scalp to stop the problem.

I got out of the Navy.
My hair started coming back at the age of 23.
Did you serve on a nuclear submarine? 😀
Good question. Nope.
I got dunked in lead paint more times than I care to remember and I've taken more paint thinner baths than I am able to remember.

Shave. It worked for Bruce Willis, and he gets all kinds of tail (not Demi Moore, but hey).
Yeah, it kinda helps to be a rich movie star before you go bald.

Any of you guys experiencing similar problems and take any steps to prevent/stop?

How much do the bosley cost avg or similar companies where they implant natural hair? (maybe im wrong?) PLEASE type away!

I lost all my hair at 19. Haven't missed it for 23 yrs now.

Yep - you're screwed. Get used to the buzzcut, it's you best friend. Unless you really like the comb-over look

My thoughts about premature hairloss are as follows:

If you're already experiencing a loss you really have little choice but to embrace it; however, you can do something about the rate of loss. You might even be able to stop the loss entirely. I don't see consuming pharmaceuticals every day as being a feasible solution, and surgery just seems insane to me.

I'm now 25, and unfortunately I have the same problem. I started noticing loss when I was working insane hours under intense stress. I'm learning to care less and less, because in the end I haven't any problems with women that appeal to me anyway; after all, isn't that the real concern behind premature hair loss? If a woman is that concerned I likely wouldn't want to be with her anyway, and the same goes for me with respect to her aesthetic sensibilities.

Anyway, there are options available that have been mostly proven to slow, maybe stop, and in some cases out of an intense fit or irony, stop the shedding. I would look at the LaserComb, but research it before you start laughing.

Contrary to the folk wisdom that baldness is inherited from one's mother's family, genes contributed by both parents appear to affect hormone levels as well as the general susceptibility to this process.

Hair grows about an inch every couple of months. Each hair grows for 2 to 6 years, remains at that length for a short period, then falls out. A new hair soon begins growing in its place. At any one time, about 85% of the hair on your head is in
the growing phase and 15% is not. Each hair sits in a cavity in the skin called a follicle. Baldness in men occurs when the follicle shrinks over time, resulting in shorter and finer hair. The end result is a very small follicle with no hair inside. Ordinarily, hair should grow back. However, in men who are balding, the follicle fails to grow a new hair. Why this occurs is not well understood, but it is related to your genes and male sex hormones. Even though the follicles are small, they
remain alive, suggesting the possibility of new growth.

That aint no forehead, thats a five head:laugh:

Seriously though. You guys who have thinning hair...stop worrying about it so much. Any girl who is worth your time wont give it a second thought. We look for gents who have maturity, class, character, and confidence. Hair doesnt make a man😉

Do the right thing, and get your barber to shave it back (down to a number 1 or number 2 blade) every couple of weeks. You will look sexy with short hair. Don't try to disguise the fact your hair line is receding.
