I hate corruption like this. What I hate most is they usually will catch a corrupt politician doing only 1 corrupt act. So they can only prosecute on that one act, where everyone knows they get away with doing so much more.

He was already under 3 federal investigations. If they had enough dirt on him for other stuff it'll come to light soon enough. Just wondering what Illinois is going to about a replacement, and also the vacant US Senate seat.

Shouldn't the Lieutenant Governor take his place for the rest of the term? That's what happened in Florida when Lawton Chiles died about 10 years ago when I was living there.

He has not been convicted so he is not required to in that state. The only way out is if he is impeached, convicted, resigns, dead, or steps aside temporarily.

0.50 an hour is a joke. No wonder they don't make money. Toronto street parking in the downtown area is 3.50 dollars an hour, assuming you can find a spot.

the .50 an hour is far off. i have NEVER seen a meter in chicago that was $.50 an hour. I have seen some that were $.50 for 10 minutes though. hell even seen one that was $.50 for 5 minutes. and these are some of the cheap ones.

That is more in line with my expectations. Over here parking lot put out signs with a big $3 and a small per 20 min.

So the FBI had a wire on him for some 3-4 years already, recording this stuff. a lot of "expletives deleted."

Think McNulty was involved? Anyone else replacing [expletive] with "Sheeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittt!"

It about freakin' time.

I wonder if we'll ever be able to bust that corrupt Chicago political machine? Crooks, all of them.

..ha. and your obama is part of it's fabric.

He was barely a factor in Illinois politics.

These other guys have been entrenched so long, they were born into this stuff. Obama came out of nowhere only a few years ago.

IN FACT, these guys OPENLY RESENT Obama for his unwillingness to play, and his overwhelming success for ignoring them for years. None of them really supported his Senate campaign.

Don't be an idiot.

..no wonder why the democrats go into a cold sweat over the mere mention of wire taps. The fact that he wallowed in Ill.politics is clear indication he's a willing accomplice regardless of their open resentment. Nothing more then slight of hand and smoke and mirrors for public consumption.

He never wallowed. Obama was universally hated by the established players for his refusal to wallow with them. He never had a legit endorsement from Daley, Blogojivich, Jackson, any of the usual suspects.

Get your facts straight before you make a fool of yourself.

you know, these are just the ones that are caught. Imagine the real flush of the entire system. nothing will change unless the system changes. sad really.

One of the sadder facts about Chicago corruption is that Jesse Jackson isn't as powerful as he could be.... ;)

don't fool yourself. the jacksons control the beer distrubution of chicago (well one of the largest) after Jesse ran a boycut of them.

Ah yes, that would pull some major influence in Chicago ;)

I'm just commenting on how his pull tends to remain largely on one side of the extreme racial divide that exists in Chicago.

Illinois has been this way for a long time, at least as long as Louisiana.

You know where the "windy city" nickname comes from, right?

Don't forget that it was the graveyard population of Chicago that won the election for Kennedy, thanks to the first Daley.

And what Patterson did in New York earlier this year...

haha, you'd think polititians doing all sorts of crime would be smart enough not to openly talk about it on the phone. :)

He needed Barksdale to tell him to use pagers instead.

His only hope is that they don't take him down with them. It would be a shame to have a President impeached on his first day in office...

digest the facts, first.

Great piece on Obama's journey through Illinois. It's not a pretty place, everyone knows that, but he did pretty well keeping himself out of the thick of things.

..no no no. you don't want him impeached. Let him take office then pick him apart with allegations..special prosecutors..investigations..hearings. keep him twisting in the wind. peel the onion. this guy is up to his eyeballs in political quicksand. all he needs to do is start squirming.

He ran a race against Hillary Clinton and then against the rove trained republicans, and came out smelling like roses. If there was a big secret to find we'd have heard about it. But watching the accusations is half the fun of presidential politics. "He was born in Kenya!" "He's a smoker!" "He uses a Zune!" Top shelf stuff, really.

Naturally. Why those incompetent clintons and rovians couldn't find anything has nothing to do with there not being any there there, they just didn't really want to win the election. Wait till they find his Kenyan birth certificate. Lookout!

I take it you didn't read the article. If there's any Chicago-related baggage, it's there. Honestly, it's not the most flattering portrait of the man, either.

But it gives you great insight into the nature of Chicago politics, if you can stomach it.

In the meantime, perhaps it'd be best if you lose the AM dial on your radio? It seems to have rotted your brain.
