Illegal Immigration solution -- Make Illegals Work as Slaves to Build a Wall

I wonder why white people don't just all return to Europe, Asians go back to Asia, Black people return to Africa, and let the Hispanics (partial descendents of Americas) just have their land back?

It makes total sense.

Because they have been living here in the United States for decades and long-since planted roots? The argument that the white people stole the land from the Indians 200 years ago has no bearing on today's situation. No one who was alive then is alive today. The fact of the matter is that the United States of America exists and is populated by American citizens. The issue is not whether they should leave and immigrate to other countries. The issue is--"what policy is in the rational selfish economic interests of the American people?" That is the issue that the pro-immigration people (yourself perhaps?) like to evade.

The penalty for being caught in the nation illegally will be to spend 6 months working as a slave constructing a 50 foot high, electrified wall on the southern border. Discuss.

It probably wouldn't work since Americans find slavery (even when a serious law has been violated) detestable and would be horrified by whatever means would be needed to keep the illegals productive. Still, it's a fun thought and seems like poetic justice in a way.

I think the idea has merit. Those who are unfit but hot could be used as sexual slaves. And illegals' children could be put in sweat shops because really even a 6 year old has some utility. The only question is what to do about the ugly and the physically unable and for those I'd say they seem a lot cheaper than a crash test doll, so there's the use for them.

BTW I DO think that ambulatory inmates in many cases should be "forced" to work. Their work would gain them privileges, but if they say screw you and do nothing they still must have some elementary things like room and board because otherwise, frankly, you're probably the guy sending out birthday invitations to Kim Jong Il and you don't want to be that guy.

Can we put a sign up that says "Arbeit macht frei", or would that be in poor taste.

As a legal immigrant let me assure you that if I felt like a lapse in my legality, be it through my own fault or a bureaucratic oversight, had me running wire in Arizona you can bet your ass I'd not be here.

For clarification, I'm not opposed to having a guest worker program solely for agricultural jobs, but the government could then control who enters the country.

As for many of those jobs the illegals do--such as construction, janitorial work, and meat packing--the jobs that Americans supposedly won't do--I suspect that Americans would do them if they received American free market compensation for them.

Senseamp, why don't you make an argument to explain to us why mass immigration benefits Americans in light of some of the points I've already made--population explosion and higher resource costs, environmental degradation, wage depression, and displacing Americans from jobs they might otherwise do? Please consider the invisible back-end costs and not just the front-end costs.
