Sorry, its a CNN video.

To summarize, a bakery hired a number of illegal immigrants and allegedly shorted them on pay, paying them less than agreed or in food only. The video shows a number of illegal immigrants on the street outside the bakery protesting.

Here's my take. First, the illegals are criminals and ICE should swing by and pick them up. Second, the bakery owner needs to cough up the wages owed. Theft is still theft and an honest days work deserves an honest day's pay. Third, the bakery needs to be penalized for hiring illegal immigrants in the first place.

I'd like to emphasize the third point most strongly. The reason illegal immigrants come to the US is for work. If businesses that hire illegals are penalized so heavily that they could actually fold, this practice will decrease. It'd be far cheaper and less risky to just hire legal workers in the first place.

My neck of the woods, you wouldn't get away with it. You would get knifed.

Punishment for businesses and individuals hiring illegals:

1) On a county by county basis track the costs of providing services (including ER and hospital care) to illegals.
2) Implement joint, strict, and several liability for these costs on any and all businesses found to have hired illegals in that county.

What point two means is that if a business is found to have hired illegals they can be billed for the entire cost of services for all illegals provided in that county. A busted business would have enormous incentive to rat out other businesses who hire illegals in order to reduce their own liability.

Businesses who hire illegals are socializing their cost of doing business, sticking service providers and the taxpayers with the bill. My proposal moves these costs back on the the benefiting employers thereby providing relief to the taxpayers and also balancing the field for businesses that play by the rules.

What?? We have laws that weren'tmeant tobeenforced?

Then why did they bother making them in the first place?

Do you not realize why businesses are not criminally penalized? The whole immigration debate is a joke.. the government will never do anything because they will never hurt businesses.

The business did a good thing for our country by exposing them. Now that the illegals have come out of hiding, we can round them up and send them back to Mexico.

No, if it's proven the Business owner knew they were illegals he should lose his business license be charged with theft and any charges having to do with helping the illegals evade detection and face the stiffest penalties including incarceration.

And the illegals get deported, right? Sounds good.

Actually, this sounds like the perfect solution to your illegal immigration problem: Encourage business owners to stiff illegal workers!
Nah, the perfect solution is to fine businesses for the hiring of illegal immigrants. If offenses continue, the the fine keeps going up.

Business owner should be forced to pay the promised wages. Business owner should be punished for knowingly hiring illegals. Illegals should get deported.
