A father from Oaxaca, Marcelino de Jesus Martinez, arranged with an 18-year-old neighbor to trade 160 cases of beer, six cases of meat, $16,000 and other assorted beverages in exchange for his 14-year-old daughter. And when the groom, Margarito Galindo, was not forthcoming with the loot even after the girl had obediently moved in with him, concerned dad Martinez went to the police to complain about non-payment.

Police Chief Joe Grebmeier noted that Martinez' actions would not be illegal in Mexico, including arranging the marriage of a 14-year-old girl, because the age of consent is 12 in some locales. Greenfield police have heard rumors of girls that young being sold into marriage in the city. But the recent case is the first one where the perp went to the police and announced his behavior.

So how is that diff from a dowry and arranged marriages? Sounds like how things work in alot of parts of the world. How about those heathens in India? Known a few Indian coworkers who've gotten into situations like this (sans beer and meat lolz, and over 20yo, but really.)

Not that its not F'd up.. but you could write the headline a lot of diff ways and the sound of the story could change greatly.
 
In another news, some white man started some church and brainwashed underage women to be his wives, and forced those women to stay away from the civilization so he can keep brainwashing them. I guess this serves as an evidence that all white men are morally corrupted and should be banished from this country.

The difference is his actions are not sanctioned by the law in America opening him up to prosecution.

I have always been amazed at how many of the stupid threads posted taking the action of one person and subscribing it to an enitire group. Usually along racial, ethnic, or religous lines.

Sure it does... in other news, I have seen at least 10 cases where abusive white men, beat thier wives regularly, and eventually beat them to death. Do we ban white people too, or is it going to be OK for one person to be an idiot without condemning the entire race?

If this type of thing were as common in the US as the OP is in third world countries you would have a point. I can think of 3 countries I have been to off the top of my head where I could easily buy a kid under the age of 14 for less than $1000.

Mexican families are more tightly knit than American ones are. The OP just hates Mexicans and is trying to justify his case by bringing something up that rarely happens in Mexico.
