By definition that's an illegitimately obtained driver's license. He had to have committed fraud to get that driver's license.

That *may* be technically true(depends on the State's law, I suppose), but that doesn't mean he hasn't obtained the Drives License in the same fashion as an authentic Citizen(I have no idea if he has) which would mean passing a written and Practical driving test. The problem, IMO, with this whole thread is that it focusses solely on the fact that this is an Illegal Immigrant, as if somehow that status makes the tragedy worse or even possible. People die everyday in similar tragic circumstances, at the hands of perfectly Legitimate Citizens, yet the rare tragedy involving an Illegitimate Citizen is somehow worse and worthy of extra attention? Colour me confused.

No, I specifically have problems with illegal immigrants having a driver's license.

Hmm I get it confused civil and common law, the system that we aren't would suggest that since the individual is an illegal alien he should not have been able to get a job, shouldn't be here and is at fault for those reasons for the death of the man.

China for example would follow that logic.

Technically he shouldn't be able to get a job, yes, but as we know the reality is very different. In fact, not only can Illegal Immigrants get a job, but they are a vital source of Manpower for certain regions and certain industries in the US. This has been the case for many decades.

Even though Gonzales was an illegal immigrant, he still holds a valid Michigan Operator's License. A number of states, including Kentucky, issue licenses to non-citizens. That's just the way the law works.

So his driver license might very well have been legitimate.

I don't know about other states, but I know that here in Michigan you must have a social security number to get a driver's license. (Or one of those number's issued by the INS for aliens to work here...a visa?). And if he's an illegal he wouldn't have neither, therefore it wouldn't be possible for him to have a valid driver's license. They might just be saying that the license wasn't a fake.
