Legalize them and tax the hell out of them.

Not only do we save a lot of money because we no longer need to house thousands of drug users in our jails, but be make money off of the taxes. It's a win/win situation.

I can see the state interest in it as they are the ones having to foot the bill when a junkie comes into the ER for an OD.

Hospital has to spend a few thousand to treat the guy, then they don't get paid, requiring further support, or higher expenses for the rest of us.

Not voting on the topic, just information.

Even with drugs being illegal we still have to treat people when they OD and we get the extre benifit of paying the next 5 years of room and board for the person.

Treating people suffering from tabacco relating illnesses I bet is more costly right now that treating junkies who come in after they OD.

I say legalize them all. War on drugs is a big freaking waste that still won't stop us humans from using drugs.

-----------
Drugs themselves cost almost nothing to produce. Tax too much and illcit trade will continue along with all the drug crimes. Really won't fix the problems of gangland warfare and stealing/crimes to get a fix due to profit motive and infated costs.

Honestly I dont know why weed isn't legal. In thehistory of its use, no one has ever died from it. Lets think about alcohol, how many people die from alcohol poisining each year. Weed is soooo much safer. I really just dont understand our government.

I have been a government attorney for the last 5 1/2 years, and I think they should all be legal - our prison system is clogged with drug offenders, thanks to the incredibly severe penalties enacted in the federal government and most states, meaning that many violent criminals are paroled or diverted to make way for drug criminals. We have a greater percentage of our population in prison than any other country on earth. It's madness.

I also tend to think that the secondary violent crimes that occur on the organized-crime side of the drug trade would be largely eliminated if it were a commercial industry, rather than a black market.

Forcing the govenment to stop treating us like children would mean not not using those resources at all.

I can GROW high-quality pot in my garden, right next to my tomatos and cucumbers. How is the fed going to tax me without STILL being all up my ass and in my business? Legalize everything, take away a hell of a lot of power from the government, save billions a year, severely curtail black market violence, not ruin hundreds of thousands of lives AND not give taxing bodies more money to waste on silly sh1t. Where's the downside here? ;)

If they made the tax something resonible like 25 dollars per plant would you pay the tax or take the risk of getting your house sized?

Please don't take this as a slam against you, but why MUST I be taxed at every turn? I'm already "giving" over 50% of my income for BS, mostly. When is enough enough?

You have a point, but I don't entirely agree. I think that given the choice between buying a joint at your local 7-11 or going to a back alley to deal with some gang member, the average joe will choose the much safer option (being the 7-11).

But you are right, we wouldn't be able to tax it so much that it would cost way more than illegal prices.
