I'm sorry, but why are we rewarding them for coming here illegally? I said this during the History test about shoving them in crates and shipping them back to where-ever the hell they came from.. And to ship them back UPS. That'll teach them.

Then everyone labeled me racist. Meh, fine by me, their ignorance.

According to your theory their DP asses should have been packed into crates & shipped back to where ever they came from.

My ancestors came here from Sweden around 1890. They worked hard, educated themselves, learned to speak English and applied for citizenship.

Our infrastructure cannot handle this level of illegal immigration so we need to do something about it. I say enforcing our laws is a great way to start. But hey, that's just me.

Doesn't look like we much of a choice.

Face it, no matter what ideal you're operating from, the illegals have a place in our economy. Their status as "non-citizens" allows corp America to make the consolations that keep you from spending too much on the things you can't do without. Nike makes their shoes in Singapore - just by chance? Or is it to keep their overpriced Airs from being astronomically priced? Even GWB wanted to give them a little status here - a former TX governor that obvious sees the value. So take Lacretia out of Detroit and give her one of the same jobs that Consuela was oh so happy about and how long do think it would be before she didn't show for work....permanently...

Apparently 85% of the population (of ATOT) disagrees with you.

Apparently I'm one of the other 15% then.

Actually, it's more like 8%. The rest just wanted to see the results without voicing an opinion. We'll put them on the fence.

Sarcasm? I'm being dead straight baby! Just think for even a moment about the economics of what it takes to do the stuff you don't even think about and you might just get it too...

So am I. You said that my post admitted that these were jobs Americans didn't want. I was being sarcastic when I quoted that phrase. I don't think that these are jobs Americans don't want.

Why don't they go pick fruit and make beds in Guadelupe? There are more than enough AMERICANS who would be more than willing to do the work. They don't belong here. Fvck 'em.

Dooooood! Sorry I misread your message but think about it? Doing laundry in the basement of the Mirage? But if Consuela was sent back to Mexico in the bed of your pickup, do you really think there would be a line made up of perpetually unemployed Americans? Sure maybe the ones that do have a sense of social responsibility but if the Government has been covering your 6 kids all by different dads for the last 10 years, do you really think they would get off the couch and miss Jerry Springer?

WTF are you talking about? I didn't say that I wanted to do those jobs. I have 1 kid, I am his Dad and I'm married to his Mom. I'm an Accountant, my wife is a Realtor, we are homeowners and we don't have a pickup truck.

If there were no pool of illegal immigrants to do those jobs then the market would adjust and the wages would probably increase slightly along with prices. No big deal. This is capitalism.

That's exactly what he's trying to point out.

If wages for those jobs rose, (which it will because Americans won't do such hard labor like that for minimum wage) so would the cost for those services, thus in return would send the prices down to the customers, customers like YOU who don't want to pay $5 to get their shirts washed.

Sorry again but I didn't infer that you wanted these jobs. I'm asking, WHO would want them if there no illegals to fill the positions? I'm saying that Americans would be much to choosy to do the same work Consuela would - happily. To get Lacretia to do it, we would need to raise her wage, offer benefits and deal with her questionable attendance preferences......ALL of which would cost you, the very proper accountant, more on your next stay in LV. Would you pay this premium for the same or lower level of service? Maybe you wouldn't mind but many do whine, kick and scream (as most americans do about anything when they dont get their way) when they're hit with additional charges....I can just hear the poor 30k/yr manager behind the counter being berated by a guy from Kentucky screaming about the extra $10 he just spent. As an accountant I was wondering why you're not seeing the balance between what it is you get for your dollar now, compared to what you would get for 1.50 if we went with the true blue all American route. This stuff ain't free and if it costs the Circus Circus more, you better believe it's going to cost YOU more....

They're not only here to get fed but to get a share of the wealth that we have here
:disgust:
All of them would come if they could, some get sent back but that does not stop them. The try until you succeed approach never fails them :(

Ummm.... Seems to me that there were plenty of Americans doing those jobs for generations. Then the illegals came and undercut the wage requests. Now the wages go down by a certain %, the price goes down a little less of a %, and the major corps get richer and richer, making us all think that the entire country would collapse if everyone got paid a decent wage.

Who was picking fruit and changing bedding before we were inundated with illegal aliens? Seems to me things ticked over just fine and no one went broke paying the prices. People worked, they got paid a fair wage and saved for stuff.

I have no problem with anyone wanting to come here for a better life. Let them come, legally... let them get legal entry, get a green card, working papers, a social security number and pay taxes like everyone else. As far as giving anyone who is here illegally free medical, frre welfare, food stamps and college educations... that is carp.

As for the border patrols...thumbs up to them for doing their job.
Come to California. Something like 80% of the illegals are on welfare, free healthcare, etc.

Eight hospitals in LA had to shut down because they couldn't support the amount of illegals with no insurance coming in.

I'd rather move back to Belfast than visit California. :p

I guess I just can't grasp the reality of the situation, as it doesn't present itself to me. If it's that bad, then I retract my comment about them not being an inconvience.

My dad used to be an E.R. doc in San Diego back in the 70's. He once calculated out his income from every illegal alien patient. After what the government paid him minus his fees to the hospital, insurance, billing agency etc, he lost $1. $1 per patient per visit per doctor. In a busy hospital in SoCal that could easily mean $100 a day or more from his paycheck.

Would you be happy if you had to give out your money and time like that? And risk getting sued for malpractice on top of it?

Noone wins when these aliens get treatment. Hospitals lose money on it too. There's a hospital in downtown San Diego that's shut down for the same reason as those 8 in LA.

My dad's now a Anesthiesiologist, he does OB work mostly. He says about 50% of the new babies he sees each day are from mothers that arn't legal. As soon as the kid pops out it's legal though. But hey at least with latins the father is usually present, and also illegal, which is better than a lot of ehtnic groups.

So give the wet back a chance, because most of them work hard to become successful tax payer citizens just as your ancestors have done.

You may be forgetting about the shareholders. You know, the reason corp america needs to perform or else! How does downsizing fit into this POV? Sure the companies are making plenty of money and "could" pay EVERYBODY twice what they are making now out of the profits but where would that leave the 86 year old that expects GE stock to outperform year after year?
So let believe we're booming again, kinda like in the late 90s. Companies are hiring, everybody worthy of being employed is employed but as soon as the company's stick drop a few percentage points, the officers of the company are literally demanded to make it work - better. Remember the tech boom and bust? Profits couldn't sustained either by non-exisitent business plans or by simple economics. Visit San Fran for more info.
When is enough going to be enough? It never will be unless we change minds. My uncle the executive literally travels the world making deals in places like Ireland, China and Indonesia. His company believes that they can make their widgets over there, ship them back here, all at a net cost that's a penny less per unit than what they make it for here. That penny used to go to an american "willing" to work for $7 an hour. Can you live on $7 an hour? Until minds change, employers, through no fault of there own, will look between the lines at the 4 dollars an hour they can save ANY way they can...

SO WHO's FAULT IS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Healthcare question is a whole 'nother topic that just doesn't work. I agree that the ilegals don't contribute to the "system" but take from it all the same...not good. But if you break a leg - you break a leg. Now having 6 babies? Maybe we should be asking the vatican for help on that one.

If I were you I would be MORE pissed at the insurance companies and TORT reform. It's just out of control. Ask your dad who he is more pissed at, working on ilegals, or writing his check for malpractice insurance. I'll bet your father choosing to devote his life to helping people would happily deliver a baby for whoever if he didn't feel the sting from his insurance guy so bad. Now the next time you see a jury award 25.5 million to a crack whore that got the wrong leg cut off - maybe start pointing the finger at that system...like I said, a whole other topic....

They almost always work under the table and thus do not pay taxes. Employers are not supposed to hire illegals anyways, so you can bet the ones that are working are not paying taxes.

I think all illegal immigrants should be rounded up and shipped out. If we are going to home more immigrants, we may as well open our borders to greater quantities of LEGAL immigrants.

Don't let anyone stay that has taken advantage of the system, tax everyone, and let those who follow the rules come in.

Shouldnt you be pissed at your government then? They are the ones taking your money.

like many other countries, foreign capital sent home is a large part of what makes the mexican economy still work. it is in our best interest to keep the mexican economy from collapsing since we value stable border countries at a very high level. we can debate the best way to simultaneously keep the mexican economy from tanking (with all of the attendant social discord) while maintaining some control over the illegal immigration.
