Did you ever take something apart in order to fix it -- NOT find the problem -- but reassemble it and it somehow works?

This has happened to me a couple times.

sure. Been a while, I usually fnd out what the prob is.

Or the taking it apart cleans it. The dirt was in the way.

<-- took apart a cd-rom. It will never work again.

Not that I can remember. My problem is that I usually come up with extra pieces when I put the thing back together.

Some things I have no patience for, like vcr's -- ingenious little bastages who design these things. I've never tried a cd-rom is it that bad?

how do you think i fix my computers?

Regarding my first post: That is aside from computers. I've gotten pretty good with those. It's vehicles and such that I'm not so good with.

Hehe.. it's like replacing a head gasket or changing a cam or rebuilding an engine: You always, always need a bucket for the "extra bolts"... :)

Yes. I've also taken things apart that were working, and reassembled them into non-working condition.

Yep, I've taken apart small appliances (fans, radios, stuff like that), and not found the problem. After reassembling them, they would work just fine.

This reminds me... once when I was in 6th grade I spilled a glass of water into a clock-radio. I quickly yanked the plug out of the wall and let it dry for a couple of days. A couple of days after that, I plugged it back in and it worked no problem. In fact, it keeps better time than any clock I've seen.

Maybe this also happened to me and not a couple of times when I was a kid, but as I get older I just want to leave things as they are and not bother, really. For instance, nowadays I never open any stuff and I just don't care what's inside :D But it was a different story a while back :D
