Insane is an understatement on that performance.

But you're spot on, belmont is not his race.

so if he won the kentucky derby and the preakness, he would have never been a triple crown winner anyway?

You never say never in horse racing (do a youtube search for Louisiana Derby 2012). But the Belmont is the toughest leg of the crown because of the distance and Bodemeister while an awesome horse is not best suited for it.

I'll have to watch replays of the derby and preakness, along with closing fractions/speed ratings in the final furlongs to get a better idea of how much I'll Have Another had left.

I think he's the real deal, but we've had so many that win derby/preakness only to fall to the brutal Belmont. That last stretch is just so freaking long.

For the non horse folks, go look at some of Secretariet's races and see what he did in the belmont. Unfucking believable.

Can you believe if Bodemeister went to Belmont and came in 2nd a third time straight to I'll Have Another? If I were the jockey for Bodemeister I would probably jump from my horse and strangle I'll Have Another's jockey before the finish line.

I think Bob Baffert's hair actually got whiter after the Preakness race. :D

Just 30 minutes later, I'll Have Another's trainer, Doug O'Neill, 44, went on the Dan Patrick Show and told Patrick that I'll Have Another would be scratched from the Belmont. This news spread swiftly around Belmont, and it was if an entire sport had been canceled. Late Friday morning the 144th running of the Belmont loomed as the most significant sporting event on one of the busiest weekends of the year. A Game 7 in the NBA Playoffs, Stanley Cup Finals, French Open women's final, Manny Pacquiao fight ... none of it was bigger than the history that might be made at Belmont. Instead, the event is meaningless, except to the very small community of breeders and bettors who will still pay attention.

Really really sucks, after the way he won his races I was rooting for him big time and thought Belmont was the perfect track for a late break horse. Shit like this happens in racing all the time though.

Yeah, his closing was the real deal, great shot at getting it. Oh well. I'll still play the belmont but with a small field I'll be going for long shots on exotics in hopes of getting lucky.

Dale Roman's (a local trainer here in Louisville's) Dullahan is the correct favorite, but no money to be made on him. I'll put 5 across just because of Dale.

If you look back at the last couple of triple contenders, ones that got the first 2, they all got picked up by a fresher horse in the stretch, so it sucks hard IHA can't run in today's race with his stunning closing ability.. :(
