Hey all...:D

I'll be helping a friend tomorrow installing NT server 4.0 (Primary Domain Controller) and any advices I need to know?

Any info I need when dealing with PDC?

You see, he has computers (Win95/98) in every room in the house and want the control to be centralize by NT server. He will be assigning ID/Password.

I know how to install NT server as a 'Stand Alone Server'...but, not 'Primary Domain Controller).

Thanks

During the install of NT 4, you will be prompted if you would like to make the server a PDC, BDC, or a stand alone. You should know this screen. Just select PDC and then create the domain name your friend would like to use. That is about it. If you have any problems or issues, PM me or post back your issue. Just remember to install SP6a after you have installed NT, and before you install ANY other vendor drivers; then install the vendor drivers; then re-install SP6a.

Hope this helps.

Thanks....another question, about the workstations in his house.

What do I need to install on workstations that will force you to enter a ID/Password that is store on the server?

You will have to go into the Networking Control Panel applet and make sure that Client for Microsoft Networking is installed. Once you have varified this, then double-click on it. There will be a field that will allow you to input the domain name for the computer to log into. If you want to change the security from Share Access level to User Access level, you will first have to log into the domain and then make this change in the same area in the Client for Microsoft Networking.

Although I don't really understand why someone want to password protect computers in his own house, I do suggest you install NT4 or 2K pro on his workstations to make sure the policy will be enforced.

Just came back from setting up the NT server on his pc and all his 95/98 computers can see the master server.

/pat on the back :D

I have one problem....when I installed the Sygate program to allow the client computers to share the internet connection. I couldn't get it to work. :(

What am I doing wrong?

Since, all computers can see the master server....it should be able to work.

The NIC that has direct connection to the net was set to DHCP. 2nd NIC was set to 192.168.0.1 and the client computers was set to 192.168.0.2.....etc.

Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks in advanced.

You need to be more specific. What is gong wrong? Can the clients PING the server? In your DHCP scope, do you have the settings correct, like Default Router/Gateway, DNS Servers, etc?
