dude i heard about this thru AK and Junayed. Congrats Ronnie!
as for packing...can you really pack for 3 months? take like 2 weeks worth of clothes and essentials and then buy some there as need be.

thanks man! i figured as much with the clothes... just not sure about anything else.

Make sure your office has AC or casual summer dress that mimics the PM.

the office will surely have ac and the dress is business casual with suits required if we have client meetings.

Wish they had Cool Biz when I worked there, suit and tie + Osaka summer = death by dehydration

roppongi is the western district over there.. lotta nightclubs, restaurants, and stuff...

during the summer it is going to be VERY humid... so keep that in mind...
for the most part, you will enjoy living there, especially once you learn the train systems (make that a priority)... you can buy anything you want anytime of the day by walking down to the bottom of your apt and walking ~5 mins to the nearest 7-11.... hmm.. what else.. japanese love it when you try to communicate with them.. especially if you give them a chance to practice their english...

anyways, i lived in japan for 15 years so if you got any specific questions PM me...

Totally Cool.

Stay AWAY from The Seventh Heaven, unless you're doing the Businessman's meeting thing. As ZZtop says.... They gotta lotta Nice women there.
There's a Subway across from the second story entrance of The ANA Hotel.
Johnny Rocket's down the block has good American style burgers. And the Western Dancers frequent the place before thewir shifts.

Oh and it's gonna be HuMID!!!! Prepare yourself.

Congratulations.

I agree with everything except the 7-11 comment. Lawsons for lyfe... there will be a konbini whether am-pm, 7-11, lawsons, daily Yamazki, familymart, sunkus, etc... within 3 min walk of the ground level of your building.

All the Lawsons that were around me went out of business when 7-11 started moving out West.

My konbini food ranking
1) AM-PM (huge frozen selection that they'll heat up for you)
2) 7-11 (love the deserts like shirokuma)
3) Daily Yamazaki (fresh bread! But if they don't have the bakery, they are the worst)

I like Lawsons because the egg-salad sandwhich packs were to die for.

basically, they'll be paying for my ticket out there and back and housing in roppongi (serviced apartment in Ark Towers) and i get some kind of salary as well (not as well paid as the summer associates in nyc).

Wow, nice apartments they are setting you up with. The monthly rent on those apartments range from $2,840 to $7,306 a month.

but from what I hear, Japan's expensive, right? Not like India where you can live off $20 a day?

its cheaper than nyc (at least what i've found and considering im not paying for housing).

Where did you stay/visit when you last went to Japan?

(in the order we visited) tokyo -> tsumego/magome (nakasendo highway hike) -> Nagano (zenkoji) -> Koya-san -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Hiroshima -> Matsuyama (Dogo onsen on Shikoku) -> Kurashiki (near Okayama) -> Hiroshima (because we didn't see the Peace Museum, etc.) -> Tokyo

kind of a hectic trip towards the end (everything after Kyoto)...

amazing nonetheless
