I broke down and decided to get the Vapo LightSpeed.
I'll be getting it next week probably on Friday.
I can run benchmarks successfully at 2770Mhz now on water, so I'm hoping to get to the 3GHz range.

Lets see that's an equivelent rating of 4200+??
We'll see ;)

The potential of 3 Ghz sounds really exciting.

Although personally, I wouldn't trust vapor phase change cooling in continual use.

TomsHardware did a piece on the FX at 2.9 and a P4 at 4 GHz.
Both do extremely well as you might expect.
The FX has the edge in the finish however, but it's close.

THG couldn't get thier chip to 3 Ghz. It wouldn't remain stable.
I'm hoping that because mine will do 2700 on water that I may have a better performing chip.
Time will tell.
Anyway I get it next Friday.

I went from a P4 3.5GHz to the FX53 at 2700. By far the FX is the faster system.

Good question Joe.
The Vapo LS has th life span of a normal refrigerator unit. A long long time.

While you are feeling so free with the pocketbook SilverBack would you mind buying us all an A64? Oh, and benchmarks for the Vapochill? :D

A guy over on futuremark forums had an FX53 at 3.3 ghz and said his superPi score was second only to tom's fx53 running at 3.45... he was using dry-ice cooling I believe.

Well, I trust it in theory. But I must confess that i'm rather timid when it comes to actual application, although it's pretty damn tempting.

I'm curious though, how much do vapor phase cooling kits generally cost?

I thought it was a p4ee comparison.

I have one ordered, but I wasn't expecting it until the 1st or 2nd week of June.
I already have this card sold when the other comes in.

Good question Joe.
The Vapo LS has th life span of a normal refrigerator unit. A long long time.
Unfortunately, the price is similar too.:D

But seriously, phase change is a heck of a better choice than any watercooling. It is way simpler and more effective. I just don't understand why the prices cannot get to some more reasonable level, say $500.

It works for years as any cpu would under normal conditions provided you keep voltages BELOW the max safe range.

Cost of development, and lack of competition.

Vapochill and Prometia are it.

Is Vapochill LS the new design? I had the original and it was horrible, drew power directly from the PSUs 12v line, so i needed a 550w PSU back in the Wilamette days :brokenheart: and my 12v rail still ran low.

Yes new design.
The unit plugs into the back of the power supply with a pass through power cable, the power supply cord then plugs into it from the wall.

Thats a *LOT* better than their older hackjob, i had to cut the 12v line on the way to the mobo and splice it... What genius came up with that.

What's the best price on vapo's and from where? Also, for those who own such units, how's the heat exchange affect ambient temps?

The compressor puts out quite a bit of heat in a small room, its a very good idea to put it in a larger room, or always leave the door open in the room the unit is running in.
