Ikea is coming to town (Portland, OR)

It's Swedish. We have 2 stores btw 🙂

Those guys are so smart because they MAKE you walk past everything in the store. There's only one path to follow through the maze so you see everything, and a lot of the time you end up buying stuff you didn't originally go there for.

Coming to Utah in May. I'm going to go stand in line the night before🙂

Love the design and the price isn't bad either. My gf and I aren't big fans of furniture you find in "proper" furniture stores (big brown wood, meh, if we lived in a log cabin maybe) so Ikea is pretty much the only alternative to Walmart or upscale designer stores.

I AGREE. I hate the regular ugly furniture store furniture. Ikea is a good place to get reasonably priced, cleanly styled, environmentally friendly furniture.

Some of their prices are just insanely cheap for the quality. Check out their drawer and door pulls. They are at least 50-75% cheaper than anything at HD.

Great quality for incredibly cheap prices. Cheap food. And lots and lots of fun assembling the furniture 😉

Usually the first couple of people in the store get a $1000 shopping spree or something like that.

Usually a lot more than $1000. I remember another Ikea opening in the US had a $5k/$10k prize for the first customer.

The one in Boston was 5k to first, 2k to the second person. Of course they were in line for 11days.

I'll settle for the night before and some cheap furniture.

I love the cheap prices and the stuff actually looks good. The quality of their products can be argued. Their food is pretty good for the price, and you can't beat their breakfast.

I was wondering where the thread was after seeing the pic on bbzzdd...

Anyway: It's amazing how many people shop there. We have one in our town and it's always packed in there. We go maybe once a year if that. Their wood furniture is only good for temporary solutions because it's mostly flimsy. I have a corner stand in this office from there and it's on 4 tall plastic pegs. Yay for the corner. Everything sure looks pretty good though.

Only if the furniture is not disposable 🙂

I wouldn't be opposed to cutting down a real tree if the furniture is kept for decades.

I love the simple design, really not much to hate...other than spending hundreds more in there that I plan.

QFT. its cheap, its designed well, and is pretty durable if maintained and not misused.

we like their furniture quite a bit and find the quality to be very good for the price. here is what we have in our house from there:

armoire 6 years old
bookcase 6 years old
desk 6 years old
changing table 3 years old
side table 3 years old
storage solution 3 years old
kids table with chairs 3 years old
armoire 1 year old
2 x storage solution 1 year old
desk 1 year old
kids table w/chairs 1 year old
bed 1 year old
armoire 1 year old
dresser 6 months old

everything is still in excellent condition.

we also love their meatballs.

their closet stuff is great.

beds and mattresses not so much.

couches i think are a little overpriced there.

the stuff in the marketplace downstairs is generally pretty decent. glasses, plates, wastepaper bins, etc. haven't used their cookware, feels a little cheap to me.

Hey I live just outside of Portland!

The last time I visited one was as a kid so I might just not remember, but I'm under the impression the whole store is like a maze, and that it takes forever to get to the end. Sounds annoying.......

If you get the stuff that is real wood, it's pretty good.

I have a mix of Markor and Leksvik items in my living room, and everything is great so far.
