i think i hit the sweet spot.
my idle temps @ 61.5° f ambient are 31-32°c. my load temps are 33-34°c ( mostly 33°c
)! the thermal stuff i used is Shin-Etsu, i was using ceramique ( too sticky, pulled my cpu out of the ZIF every time ).
no matter what i run or do to the machine, it wont go over 34°c... my idle temps were the same before i removed the IHS, but my load temps were 38°- 40°c. the Casacade is mostly responsible for the stable, quick reacting temps. the thin base ( etc ) rocks...

a rusty razor and 15 minutes got me 5-6° cooler @ load!

went from corner to corner and rocked the razor back and forth ( with pressure away from the pcb of the cpu ) down through the black goop... and it popped off, no prob... not before i bent some pins tho, about 5 in total
