Yep, basically. These days, a PS3 game getting a good review is like a 360 lasting longer than 6 months. It's part of the console gaming culture on the internet these days, you should read up on it.

Im going to go ahead and link you to a secret IGN page that can only be reached by completing a series of complicated and life endangering tests, very few done it or have ever seen this page: Text

Hey, alright! A remake of a remake of an XBOX game! On IGN, there are only 5 games rated 9 or above. 2 of those 5 are ports/remakes. Regardless of that, though, if you are using IGN, you can only provide me 3 more links of games that got 9 or above. Your one link does not disprove my statement of great PS3 reviews being hard to come by at this point in time.

Even Gamerankings show only 18 PS3 games that have averaged an atleast an 80% score (only 1 above 90%, which was a port of a 360 game/expansions).

I'm not trying to start another console debate here, I'm just trying to prove my point that a good review of a PS3 is hard to come by. I've said nothing about games that actually good, just the review scores. The posting of one single review did nothing to help whatever point you were trying to make.

yeah, but can you believe it?

I've heard that the game is really fun except for the really dumb design decision of having to go back and replay the parts you already played with the other character before you can even progress. Why not just make it so you can finish the game with one then go play it again with the other character?

Nope. I was honestly surprised that one of the hyped games for the PS3 this holiday season actually got a very good score from a major online reviewer. Hence, my topic summary.

You're really wanting to start something here, aren't ya?

Wow, way to quote something I never said. I never said I didn't believe that PS3 games were capable of getting good reviews. I merely commented on the fact that one did, considering the last couple of games (i.e. Lair and Heavenly Sword) that most PS3 fans were expecting to garner awesome reviews didn't. I've said absolutely nothing backhanded about the PS3 or it's fanbase.

You read way too much into 4 words and a few dots.

I guess I totally and utterly fail at reading comprehension, Im very sorry I misunderstood. I still don't understand, but I don't think you could ever explain it to me with words, because you know, i must be dyslexic in the brain or something. Anyway yeah, I cannot wait until folklore comes out, because I had a very fun time with the demo, and it seems to have a great storyline behind it. also I beat heavenly sword last week and now i have nothing to play except eve online and its boring as hell. and I cant find a 734 xbox, so i am teh bored.

That's what you were referencing? That was obviously a stab at the generalization of fanboy fighting on the internet between these two systems, not my personal views, hence, my third sentence. While the internet is devoid of any and all tone and emotion, I figured that even a dyslexic reader would pick up on the sarcasm I left in that post.

Are you saying that PS3 games getting bad reviews are getting these reviews because they are on the PS3? Or is my tinfoil hat alarm not working properly this morning?

EDIT: Nevermind I didn't read the entire thread. Your first few posts made me feel what I initially wrote but then later I changed my mind. :)

:) You weren't the only one who didn't pick up on my apparently lax effort at humor :D. Not my best work.

Hey, I'm a hopeful owner of a PS3 if they drop to $399 next week! I'm all for good PS3 game reviews.

I played the Folklore demo yesterday and purchased the game last night. I think it's a fun game overall, but as I suspected, I'm not a huge fan of the motion portion of the game. Especially how annoying it can be to figure out the proper way to pull big souls (you have to tilt the controller left to right). Haven't had a chance to play the full game yet though.

Tilt left and right? I don't ever recall doing that. It was more of tilting up, kind of like fishing. It's easy once you get used to it (I got used to it while playing the short demo).

Every time you capture a large soul for the first time, you must tilt left and right to "beat the soul into submission." The bosses have a huge bar for this where normal folk have a small bar. The first folk you have to do this to in Keat's stage is the Volcano folk. Then the Ge'arg guys, then the Patriot and finally the Folklore in the stage.

EDIT: Actually, I don't think the Ge'arg guys required you to do it... maybe they did? I know I failed capturing the Patriot's folk every time, but I got the Volcano guy and the boss after I learned the trick.

Some of the big guys require you to do different things with the controller to catch them I think. I think you have to play both demo levels to see it, I think Keat's stage only has the tilting left and right. I thought the demo was really fun, the game seemed like it had some good effort put into it, but I dunno if I wanna spend 60$ on it or just rent.

Ahh okay, I never played the female's stage because I wanted to go out and get another optical cable (since I got my adapter yesterday) and see if Toys 'R' Us had any good PS3 games (which they didn't by the way... I think they're in battle with Wal-Mart for the worst selection of games). I'll probably start playing the game this coming weekend if I don't start playing Beautiful Katamari (the other game I bought yesterday... a STEAL at only $40).

How many hours of gameplay does this game offer? I am considering renting it. The 15 hours estimate accurate (the one IGN gave it)?

I'm playing through it right now. I'm estimating it'll take me around 25+ hours since I want to get all the upgrades for my folk. Game looks nice. The lead characters' expressions/body position/cheesiness crack me up sometimes though (during cutscenes). Game has an interesting system of battle. I can see why people would hate it.. it's hit or miss. I wish it had a better map system. Map system sucks. minimap sucks. I wish I can bind more than 1 combination of folk on my controller. They should've taken a lesson from the GC Tales of Symphonia game (IMO the BEST rpg battle system ever created by the history of mankind). But of course, this isn't a pure rpg. Oh and they should've added more songs. Listenning to the same loop over and over again kind of got old, especially since you have to go through each chapter twice (for both characters). The load times can get a bit slow especially when you want to get 100% game complete.. If you just power through the game and just follow the story, then that shouldn't be a problem.

overall, I'd give it a 8/10 because i'm really enjoying the game right now. It's complicated enough to keep you engaged and immersed into it, but not too complicated that it's frustrating. Aside from those gripes (which are mainly just time saving issues), I like it. It's quite the artistic experience, and one of the more truly unique games out there. You won't get this type of gameplay, story, presentation in any other game.

I finally played the demo a few nights ago. I wasn't really drawn in, so I deleted it. I like my RPGs turn based (FF10 and down).

That makes the game instant fail.

Rented the game and played about 5 hours worth, my thoughts:

  • Very linear
  • Poor camera (maybe I am just not used to console RPGs)
  • Poor maps (mentioned above)
  • No anytime save
  • No dialog choices other than to "pick a topic" with certain NPCs like oblivion
  • Reminds me of Fable kinda, but not as good
  • Mildly good story
  • Good music
  • Pretty
  • Interesting mixture of cut scene types
  • Bounces back and forth between fighting and picking up glowing things and plot (but, they are not mixed together, they are kept separate, if that makes sense)

RPGs that I have played in the past: Baldurs Gate series, PlaneScape Torment, StarWars Kotor, NeverWinter Nights (and about a dozen player made modules), NWN2, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fable.

mmm...it's not bad. You get the perspective from each character. It's not literally going through each chapter twice. I thought it mixed in pretty well.

well, overall, the game feels like it can be almost great.. It has its flaws, and the flaws can detract many people. It's as if the game can be utterly awesome, but something is amiss...I think this will be more of a cult-hit type game.
