Ignored Users.

I added someone to my ignore list about two weeks ago and it seemed to be working well, but then this week it appears I can now see that users posts, which I thought should be hidden if I had them as ignored?

So when you add someone to Ignored Users does the system hide all of their posts or just threads they start? How does that work exactly. 😕

Thanks very much!

I'd always thought that, too - but - when you go to ''my forums'' and click on "add ignored user'' it says "These users will be ignored when you view topics & messages." I haven't tried to see what happens, though.

Hm...when did that change? 'Cause I remember (and correct me if I have the wrong user) that NotFred wrote a greasemonkey script to do this very thing.

waiting for the request 'can I block all non-female's posts?'

People have to be pretty weak-skinned to need this on a heavily moderated forum like AT. I could see it on the less forums where finding someone to reset the damn thing when the system crashes takes days yet alone getting someone to stop a spammer.

I suppose that's me then! Not sure what the big deal is though, if I can just quickly add someone I find annoying to the list without changing anything for anybody else.

It's not like I am asking for them to be banned or anything, I just have no desire to read that individual's posts.

Oh well, guess I'll just move along. /shrug

IMHO then you have people replying to things already answered in a post they are ignoring. It confuses people.

Yeah, I could see that happening for people that have a lot of ignored users. There is the possibility of weird, disjointed threads for those people.

But I think most people would quickly realise what was going on, unless I am giving ATers a little too much credit. 😀

Well a lifer posted today about a 3 page thread that was not even a full 1 page for most here.

Yeah, I saw that thread, but I thought that had something to do with view settings, more than anything else. 😕

It was just their view settings that's at least my point. I wouldn't be surprised if ignored users became a maintenance headache here.

lUSER: "Dear Exalted Mod, how come I can't see any posts by [INSERT_IGNORED_NAME_HERE]?"

mod: "fixed, you will see them all once you log out over the next two weeks. If you'd like to continue seeing them, go into user settings and remove them. Please use this vacation to read the FAQ."

Yeah, I had brought this up in the open issues thread, and I am pretty sure it is still blocking threads created by ignored users, but posts do show up. It is not really a matter of skin thickness to me, it is more of a poke yourself in the eye/train wreck scenario. Even though I knew a certain users doom and gloom threads would give me a headache from reading it, I would still do it to try to take something from the read...

yeah the sooner it's fixed the better. i put a certain member in the ignore list but it didn't work. what i did was block the avatar that apparently only he uses in opera. i can quickly see his post and skip it.
